Yes, that's lovely. But not what's required.

You need a $200.00 tax stamp and an item on the registry of which there are many, including drop in auto sears for ARs or AKs.

Citizens can buy full auto guns made before 1968. Only dealers and LE can own them made after.

I'm an attorney who as part of my practice sets up NFA trusts for clients. I've been educated. Its a valid example and a $200.00 tax stamp to any person who can otherwise own a firearm.

"Even without an FFL, a private citizen can still lawfully own a true machine gun if certain conditions are met. However, machine guns for non-FFLs are EXTREMELY expensive as the available supply is limited."

    You don't need an FFL.

Registered prior to May 16, 1986 (Hughes amendment to FOPA), not 1968.

Read the link I sent you. FFS. https://nationalinterest.org/blog/reboot/yes-machine-guns-are-legal-here-comes-all-catches-163921
    https://www.therange702.com/blog/can-you-legally-own-a-machine-gun/

For private citizens, there are several facets to legally owning a machine gun. For one, you are only eligible to own a fully automatic machine gun (or any gun) if you are not a “prohibited person” by law. Some of the things that will classify you as a prohibited person include the following:

    • People convicted of a crime that is punishable by more than one year in prison
    • Felons
    • Fugitives
    • Unlawful users of controlled substances
    • People with a confirmed mental defect
    • People previously committed to a mental institution
    • Former military personnel who were dishonorably discharged
    • Illegal aliens
    • Those who have renounced their U.S. citizenship
Another restriction is a result of the Firearm Owners Protection Act (FOPA) passed in 1986. It prohibits the possession of new machine guns (made after 1986) by civilians. If the machine gun was not registered at the time the act was passed, it cannot be legally owned by a private citizen for any reason.

Also, you have to watch out for specific state laws that could ban certain characteristics of some firearms. For example, you cannot legally possess, manufacture, or sell a machine gun in California, Illinois, or New Jersey.

To summarize, you can’t be a prohibited person, the machine gun must have been made and registered before 1986, and it needs to be legal according to your state’s laws to own a machine gun. Exceptions do exist, however. Some government officials, military, and police personnel, for example, may have their own set of rules regarding owning a machine gun.

    Registration Requirements
Based on the National Firearms Act (NFA) of 1934, machine guns fall under a special category of firearms. This means they must be registered with the government from one owner to the next so they can be tracked. Some of the NFA firearms and related equipment that fall under this special category include:

    • Silencers
    • Short-barreled rifles
    • Cane guns and pen guns
    • Short-barreled shotguns
    • Fully automatic machine guns
To legally own a machine gun, you first have to apply for approval from the federal government. After purchasing the gun, you must fill out an ATF Form 4 application and wait for approval before taking possession of the firearm. The FBI conducts a thorough background check using fingerprints and a photograph required with your application, which could take 9 to 12 months to process. The gun will need to stay in possession of the previous owner until the process is complete.

In addition, you will need to pay a $200 “NFA tax stamp” for each weapon transaction. If approved, you will receive your paperwork in the mail that includes a permit with the listed lawful possessor of the firearm. Only then can you take the machine gun home and possess it legally.

Of course legally the kid did not have access to the gun.

"Common sense gun control" is a code phrase and a dog whistle. The phrase means NYC style gun control.

NICS checks are at an all time high. When liberals let criminals out on no bail, or minimum bail, and reduce police common sense says to buy and carry a gun. Biden has created a flurry of gun and ammo buying.

BTW, the greatest growing demographic for gun owners is black women. Libs gotta nip that in the bud, eh what? Before it gets out of hand.

Liberals need to stop being [P word] and seek to repeal the 2nd Amendment. Stop the talk and take some action. Let's see how that works for you.

Also, gotta milk this school schooling for all it is worth to deflect attention from the "SUV Crash."

Libs should put a gun free zone sign in front of their homes.

I'll call for a reform akin to Switzerland's gun control laws: Switzerland has it so that only those trained in the use of firearms can actually use them. The issue is a manner of training and education, as well as the mental health safety of those with firearms. While Switzerland does attach a military training component to it, I argue that we could have two separate forms of military training:

    -Training for civilian use
    -Training for military deployments.

Every country needs a reserve, and our reserves are lacking. To give assurance, these reserves should hopefully never see the battlefield ever. It''s a lot like getting a membership at a country club, the experiences you get will last you for a lifetime. More citizens knowing how to make a campfire or to survive without electricity for a few hours will be crucial. And yes, inevitably there will be some who use their new knowledge for evil but tens of millions more will use it for good will.

And is the father of this 15 year old to be held liable for buying the gun and ammo just 4 days before his son used it to murder 3 of his fellow high school students and wound several others including a teacher????

Well, if nobody is talking, the default assumption would seem to be that the Parents should have stored the gun in a manner which restricted the 15-year-old's access.
And, Michigan doesn't have a Negligent Storage Law.

Michigan is not among the 14 States with Negligent Storage Laws.

14 States Have Laws Imposing Criminal Liability when a Child Gains Access as a Result of Negligent Storage of a Firearm: Fourteen states (California, Connecticut, Florida, Hawaii, Illinois, Iowa, Maryland, Massachusetts, Minnesota, New Hampshire, New Jersey, North Carolina, Rhode Island, and Texas)

I did, and I see what you are saying. But I am interested in his answer, or anyone else's, regarding the overturning of that law. We can remove Trump from the equation and just deal with the action itself.

I admit I didn't even think the 1986 thing was still a thing.. But after watching the video, the gun itself is inexpensive compared to the ammo it goes thru :) The Tommy went thru half the 45's I have reloaded in less then two minutes..

Good to know and thank for the spanking ;)

One of my niece's good friends went to Oxford High.
    She came over on Thanksgiving.

She was invited to share dinner with us, and even passed me the gravy.
As is to be expected, my niece was freaking out, until she heard from her friend.
Her friend was safe and unharmed.

Although, one of the female victims was well-known to both my niece and her friend.

I don't know what the solution is, but it is really tragic.
Unless, we plan on turning our high schools into armed camps with 5 levels of Airport Security, there is no way to ever prevent a reccurence.

And, of course, it is the same old broken record from the 2A Crowd:
    Guns are Good!
    Guns don't kill, people do!
    Nothing to see here!

Given the failure of the criminal justice system to control violent crime all teachers should be allowed to carry concealed handguns and armed security should be present on every floor of every school.

Well qualified volunteers would perform the task for donuts, coffee and a deck of cards.

Drawn and quartered in public might be a deterrent.
