Ijit, it's for the same reason that there is unemployment the world over; not enough jobs to go around, duh!!! People want to work...their aren't enough jobs for everyone.

Most countries with hot climates have a "siesta". Think...hot weather and no AC. Its a normal thing in a hot climate... <<< Mod Edit: Personal Insult >>>

I would bet the house that the people who are screaming about the evils of the PR people don't even know a one. I have known them and they work very hard, and harder than regular peeps because they have so little to start with.

As it stands, PR is a commonwealth and they have our protection and can come and go to the USA. On the other hand, they pay no taxes and cannot vote for president.

If they want to be part of the American experience, I say, good for them. We have military bases there they are an essential friend to the USA.

Puerto Ricans pay "commonwealth taxes" as well as some US taxes including FICA/Payroll taxes.

The United States does not require military bases in Puerto Rico although we do have bases there.

Let them join the club, I say. It would be cool to have a new 51st state to go visit.

If white people work so hard why did they invent the word nap and lazy? THINK! (see that line of argument works both ways)

Go out to a fruit farm. Almost all the people there will be brown, know why? Because a lot of Mexicans are willing to do work that most white Americans would vomit before doing, and do it for under minimum wage with no benefits, all to help their families.

The mexicans do such work because it's all they can do. We don't need more unskilled useless people. Make PR a state and they won't even work - it will be welfare for them all.

I've known many Puerto Ricans over the years. They are uniformly lazy and ignorant.

    Different form, same money.

Your extreme racism keeps getting in the way of any reasonable discussion of the facts. Wake the (*)(*)(*)(*) up and get a clue. This would lower the budget burden of the rest of the states.

Why are Jews and myself included allowed to be called every name under the sun, but the moment I say something about racist stupidity, the carpet gets pulled from under MY feet?

Well, too bad because the Puerto Ricans I know, including those who were tenants upstairs at my grandmother's brownstone in Brooklyn, years ago, worked very hard and sent money back to relatives back in Puerto Rico.

This is about the "welfare island" of Puerto Rico. Nobody there pays income taxes.

So, Puerto Rico becomes a state and Texas secedes. How cool would that be? No need to go out and buy new flags with 51 stars. LOL!
