I agree, I live fantastically well compared to the majority of the people in the world. I have a relatively modest income but I'd happily donate a greater share of it if everyone else did too, as the accrued benefit would be significant. Would you?

    You start.

I have always found that when I take a stand for what's right in my life, society has never ceased to amaze me, by standing with me.

    Take the lead.

USSR? I see you're living in the glorious historical past, like several other members here.

    Way to go champ.

Btw, the ice cream parlour is over this way.......

They say education reduces ignorance, but on this forum the latter is alive and kicking. Which begs the question about education.

You'll have to explain that. If, in fact, you can? I'm a Brit and have no idea what you're talking about.

Use google to find Forbes top 500 billionaires.

Mathematically it really would be the 0.001% - or even less. The use of 1% is just a short hand of that.

Bullshit, your'e acting like a simple limit can't be set. I say we should soak those who make ten million and more in income. I can't help but think they'll still get by somehow. (Amy Vanderbilt in 1902 pointed out that houses COULD be run on staffs less than 10, though it wasn't easy.)

I don't really care about laissez faire or markets or any other sordid "pro-business" nonsense.

I believe human kind deserves a universal right to shelter, food, water and healthcare, as well as education.

We are suspended in endless annihilation on a tiny speck of dust throttling toward inevitable extinction.

We have absolutely NO reason not to make life easier for everyone on this entire planet, save vane notions of nobility and medieval caste systems.

Why? Let's say you make 10 mill and I expect you to give up half (I know it's not that, maybe more or less, but this is just sposein here) Why should I have to give up anything more, assuming I'm making less than 10 mill.

Because you aren't one of the great unwashed and you can afford hot water.

    This isn't hypothetical.

If you don't even have the courage of your own convictions, why should anyone else?

You make a ridiculous statement like

"Here in the US they overwhelmingly pay MORE tax."

And then call others clueless. Hilarious. Or perhaps you don't actually understand just how clueless saying " MORE" without any actual evidence sounds.

I don't object to everyone in the world having the same amount of wealth, the same health, the same intelligence, the same good looks. Unfortunately it just doesn't work that way.

Not as a % of income.

I wouldn't even say the "same" is a requirement or even wanted. Just a fairer share of the spoils. There is absolutely no need for some men to accrue dozens of billions of dollars in wealth, while others die from hunger and illness that can be cured for a few dollars. It's a grotesque perversion and philosophically abhorrent on every level. Extolling this attitude is repugnant, although there are plenty here who do that knee-jerk wise and with relish - due, so far as I can see - to an almost complete lack of intellectual competency.

Because it doesn't work that way now, doesn't mean it has to work that way indefinitely into the future. It's not cut in stone. Humanity has made some great strides forward in its thinking over the last decades and centuries - and despite the retardedness of the group-mind, we no longer burn people at the stake or hang, draw, quarter and cut off the privy parts of designated internal enemies. There is progress, albeit admittedly and frustratingly slothful

And as sure as the Sun rises, continuing this massive inequality is eventually going to cause a massive reaction. And that's likely to be as just bad as the inequality that caused it. We've seen this throughout history, but we, as a species, never seem to learn well from that.

Unfortunately % of income isn't a useful medium for commerce. Which is why we use number of $ to quantify money.

Hehe, good point. No, I DESPISE communism and the USSR. Modern Secular Humanism condemns communism, and endorses freedom. Communism sucks - just like monarchies (which Jesus endorsed - foolishly!)

Those who really care about making a difference don't wait for everyone else. I see a big difference between what the government does with the money they take from me, and what I donate myself.
