Which will not, in any way, actually stop someone from either acquiring a firearm without submitting to a background check, or selling a firearm without performing a background check. It cannot be done without mandatory, universal registration of every last firearm currently in existence, and you cannot prove otherwise, no matter how many times you claim to the contrary.

There is nothing sensible about something that cannot work, will not work, and cannot be enforced.

We have this debate all the time and it ends up with the majority here being untruthful about how many guns that have passed through private unregulated sales that are sold to criminals. This is where the dishonesty comes in. Universal background checks on the federal level (national level ) works in every other industrialized country that employs them. You guys just want to put your blinders on and keep spewing the NRA retoric. Canada has stopped it's national gun registry and just employs universal background checks. There has not been a surge of gun crimes per capita.

Besides, registering guns is absolutely no problem with law abiding citizens. Personally, i don't recommend it but it still is no intrusion on anyone's life who doesn't commit a crime. Automobile registration catches more criminals regardless and it does not bother the freedom of law abiding citizens of life, liberty and the pursuit of happiness. On the contrary. Auto registration helps keep lawbreaker mobility at bay which increases the safety of law abiding citizens. Without car registration and licensing , the highways would have much more deadly mayhem then they have and an important source for catching criminals would be lost.

Besides, your gun is registered regardless at the state level every time you buy from an FFL dealer.

Now here is where you guys start the name calling and literally force those with honest POVs to retaliate.

That is because other industrialized countries have a tiny percentage of the number of firearms as the united states, and every last one of them is registered with the government. Neither of those factors are in play in the united states, where there are between three hundred and five hundred million firearms, with approximately forty one thousand more being added daily, and the majority of them completely unregistered and untraceable.

You complain about dishonesty. Yet you stubbornly refuse to recognize the facts that are inconvenient to your narrative.

Owning a firearm is a constitutionally recognized and protected right. Operation of a motor vehicle is a privilege awarded to you by government provided you fulfill the requirements, and can be taken away from you at any time they decide to do such. The two standards are not in any way comparable.

Any two people can get together and transfer a firearm with no one knowing. Unless there is registration of all existing firearms, this will continue. This was pointed out by legislators on the floor if congress when debating UBC's.

Criminals cannot be charged for failing to register their guns.

With that little fact, please explain the benefit of gun registrations.
