The first lady, as far as I can tell, is fulfilling all of her constitutional duties. I do not expect her to solve COVID. It's totally her choice. I won't shame her for that.

I wouldn't want to be her right now. (Or ever.) If taking care of the rose garden, which was starting to strangle itself with overgrown roots and such, makes her life more palatable, then she should do that.

 

Your comparison of a Spring garden and a late Summer garden is charming, but perhaps do some actual research on why she did what she did, and how she saved every tree that was removed by moving them to a new location on the WH grounds, in order to save the rest of the garden.

I don't understand the hatred, nor worship, of this woman. The same as I never understood the hatred, nor worship, of Michelle Obama.

I don't hate her in the least. She didn't sign on to be the First Lady when she became a trophy wife and has been thrust into a roll she is ill equipped for. She tries, I'll give her that, but she really has only one talent and posing for the cameras has limited worth.

She's also not a horticulturalist and her being credited for the work is just a desperate act to make her seem involved.

Actually Jakie Kennedy grew up in an environment of luxury where wives were expected to keep a mansion and property in showcase shape. You can't have tea parties in an unfashionable yard. Not that they got their hands dirty mind you.
I do not attack Melania no matter how you feel, I do object to the people that try to force her into a roll she is not equiped for.

And yes if you have a low bar expectation then she has done OK. After all spouses of country leaders are not expected elsewhere in the world to do anything other than turn up for state dinners. What has me cross about these threads (and yes it is very much plural) Is the way that Melania is being lauded for being “pretty” or wearing nice clothes or being a room fixture. It is the ultimate in objectifying women and diminishing accomplishments. Meanwhile the woman who really tried, with all her heart, to improve the lives of children and particularly children of colour is treated with not just disdain but an active level of misogyny rarely seen outside a Klan meeting. Why do you think so many post pictures of Michelle as a man? Could it be that a woman so accomplished is a threat to them so she cannot BE a woman and that accomplished, she MUST be a man

I can see it from all angles. Michelle was eviscerated. I don't, and have never, condoned that vial behavior. I find it reprehensible behavior to treat a first lady like that. I cannot fathom how that translates to it being okay to treat Melania the same way. I just can't go there with you. Wrong is wrong. Party is irrelevant. No first lady should be applauded or chastised for the accomplishment of marrying someone who became POTUS. It will be seriously interesting to see how our first, first man is treated.

I guess I'm just not into revenge or one-upsmanship, or keeping up with the Jones', or whatever. I know I'm in the minority. I live in a country filled with hateful people who only want to score points, and not make the country better.

Well, screw that. I loathe such behavior. I don't bring such people into my inner circle, and I condemn it wherever I can.

The first first man will set the parameters for expectations. Just as previous first ladies have set the precedence of being active spokeswomen for social causes. Therein lies Melania's problems. Presumably it's her husband wanting her to live up to those expectations to make him look good. She is ill equipped to do so but she's a gamer and tries none the less. Her handlers are at fault for trying to put a square block in a round hole. Her skill set is mainly imagery and that's where she excels, if they'd leave her alone to be that she'd get no more flack. If she wants to do something for a social cause that's strictly visual she should have a photo op of her taking a knee. Doesn't have to say a word and would have millions of new fans.

 

And many of our indigenous children learn up to 7 languages before they go to school

I admit that is kind of funny, but not sure if it is funny because Melania is looking over her shoulder to see what she is writing or is it funny that this cartoon suggests that Mooch can actually spell?
