Major Danny Sjursen, Retired wrote A True History of the United States. Read it and digest it and think about it. Smoke a good joint afterwards so you can ponder on its ponderous content. Sjursen fought in Iraq and Afghanistan and is not an outlier. He is as American as apple pie.

Few things set off a reactionary denial of US history on the part of those who see themselves as "America firsters" as a book challenging the pablum they were taught in school. A view reinforced by right wing media's "America can do no wrong" unless its being lead by a Dem narrative.

 

There is some level of truth to that.

The USA is so bad no one wants to live here.

 

The US is a great country, warts and all, but it does not do anyone any good to pretend the warts don’t exist. Is what it is.

I read threads like this and simply ask, where else do you want to be? And for those who suggest there are other better places to be, I wish them well as they leave. I know many folks who have left. And many who have returned because their understanding of what life like in other places didn't measure up, their rights weren't respected in the ways they are in this country, etc. Not all have come back, for sure. But for those who left to enjoy the uncomplicated life in central america, they got a rash of reality that lead them back.

We don't have illegal immigration problems because this nation doesn't offer up the best opportunities in the world. That is actually the reason we have it. We must always remember that when folks bash the nation for past bad deeds, all one really has to do is compare the nation's past deeds with those of the nations they point to as examples of the models they like. What modern country doesn't also have, some in their very recent histories, horrors of their own? And while most of us understand that those past horrors are just that, for those who insist on keeping those torches burning, I simply ask why? What healthy function does that serve other than to purposefully try to divide people against the idea of this nation?

Yup, there are warts. And it isn't like we don't have them today. The most superficial glance at the violence endemic in urban cities seems to go entirely unnoticed by those who claim historic oppression. That's pretty convenient, wouldn't' you say?

 

The USA beats all alternative places. Criticism is one of the laziest actions of those who deem themselves intellectually superior. Actually those who constantly criticize have an inferiority complex. Remember the glass is half full right here in the USA.

No one is bombing or physically attacking AmeriKKKa. It has been AmeriKKKa that has been attacking countries around the globe. People are fleeing their bombed-out countries or their countries that are economically tortured by AmeriKKKa.

 

We have been attacked by England, Japan, Germany, Mexico, Iran, just to name a few. Yeah we bombed out Germany and Japan, captured them, then rebuilt them into modern cities, and turned the countries back over to their citizens. We also spilt a lot of blood and treasury saving Europe from the worst mass murderer in the history of the world. Check the true history rather than swallow the crap of CRT and ignorant USA haters. The USA has a history to be proud of.

I've been reading articles by Danny for a number of years, and find him one of the good guys (like my cousin) who graduated from West Point. It's encouraging that he was an instructor there. I plan on buying the book.

Listening to the interview, and considering the book's title, I'm reminded of the excellent series of documentaries by Oliver Stone, also US Army, entitled "The Untold History of the United States".

Some people are unable to distinguish between country and government. The government likes it that way.

Mark Twain understood the difference: Patriotism means supporting your country all the time, and its government only when it deserves it.

Sjursen, Stone and many others make the distinction. Like many others, the US government has a long history of being a criminal organization. It's a pity, but part of the human condition.

 

His military service turned this guy into a pacifist. Such people weaken the army's fighting strength. Pootin's little helper, LOL.
