The Ninth Amendment states "The enumeration in the Constitution of certain rights shall not be construed to deny or disparage others retained by the People." Given that there is no enumerated right to privacy in the document, no enumerated right to smoke tobacco or drink alcoholic beverages how can these things be allowed? The only explanation is that these and many other unenumerated rights are protected by the Ninth Amendment. Why is a woman's right to abortion NOT protected by the Ninth?

That is a valid avenue of argument. However, that argument is a little bit of a double-edged sword since the unborn may have rights too, similar to the woman. That is not really the best argument, given that other similar things, such as cocaine and fentanyl, are illegal. And don't forget, due to a recent change in federal law you have to be 21 years old now to buy tobacco. Apparently those under that age are not deemed "mature enough" to make the decision.
NO, the fetus has NO rights as you have been shown a thousand times. You say it "may" have rights ? What tf does that prove? Nothing. What do you mean by "similar" to the woman's? Why just "similar" , how are your alleged fetus's rights and women rights different from each other or from men's rights? IF a fetus had rights it would interfere with the woman's rights so is negated. A fetus has no rights.
Many of the same arguments that could be used to argue the fetus does not have rights under the Ninth Amendment, also apply to the woman, so it kind of cuts both ways. And you're not able to see how that same logic could go the other way around too? Maybe someone needs to take a Logic 101 class...
As a person who's never had to deal with having a uterus I probably shouldn't comment. As a matter of fact think I'll just keep it to myself.
The sale of alcohol is still banned in some counties in the US (search 'dry county'). The sale of abortions could be similarly banned. That would be dumb, DIY abortions are a lot worse than DIY alcohol, but it would be constitutional within your logic here.

No place in the constitution mentions the unborn. No place in the document mentions the rights of the unborn. "Person" is the most common descriptor of those having rights under the document. FYI both cocaine and fentanyl ARE legal, but only under prescription. There is pharmaceutical cocaine and fentanyl. Both have legitimate medical uses, as does marijuana. Because you are well informed about the law, I would like to ask you what part of the law grants the government the power to tell the citizen what he may or may not ingest?
It is a homicide! The other vices you mentioned primarily harm the person making the decision. Abortion kills someone who had no say so whatsoever in the decision!!!!
That developing human life you dismiss as just being a fetus seems to have no value in your worldview. Well it does have sacred value as a human life and is among the most vulnerable among us. Is that your opinion that anyone among us who is vulnerable should be killed if their life is inconvenient for someone else who doesn't want to be bothered? Maybe nursing schools should fine-tune a course on when and how it's OK to put a patient down.

It's perfectly logical. No, a fetus cannot make decisions and neither can a two week old newborn. You want to pick and choose who lives based on your own self-interest.

Not persuasive in the least Whaler. We have laws against murder so that society can punish those who kill others within a civil and legal framework. Adults are persons under the law, the unborn are not persons. Legal documents do not keep track of a person's date of conception, they keep track of a person's date of birth. Your reply smacks of the emotional response I mentioned. A woman is a person, and like a man she has control of her body. Yes, it's unpleasant as can be, but a woman has the same rights as a man.

Though I did not use the word, I speak directly to morality, knowing the difference between right and wrong. I think it is right to respect a woman's right to control her body. She alone should control her body. The state and church have no control over your body, my body or her body. To assert otherwise is immoral. Yes of course the topic is most uncomfortable and unpleasant, but that does not mean the state or the church can own the woman. Thank you for the quote from MLK.
