That would be wonderful if that happened, but it's highly unlikely. What America experienced during the 50s and 60s was the product of being an unrivaled economic giant during a time when much of the industrial world was digging itself out of the ruins of World War II. The emerging economies in Africa and elsewhere throughout the world are going to be facing competition that we didn't have to contend with during our post-WWII golden age. Furthermore, they are saddled with numerous other disadvantages that we didn't face during the 50s and 60s that are going to prevent them from experiencing the prosperity that we enjoyed during that era.
It is not going to be a mirror image by any means but the opportunity and seizing it is what matters most. I did a little more research because it piqued my interest and I had been hearing a lot of negative things about a/holes like Mugabe and Zuma. The former has been deposed although his replacement might not be any better. The replacement for Zuma OTOH appears to be someone who does have the vision and the abilities to exploit the opportunity. Nigeria seems to not be as well placed from what I gathered. All that said Africa is a continent that is repeatedly blighted by droughts, famines, diseases and other maladies that make the best laid plans fall apart. However South Africa does have a sound infrastructure and arguably one of the best motivated work forces in Africa. If any nation is going to prosper it would happen there first IMO.
I think lousy, corrupt leadership (Mugabe. Zuma, et al) and with it the absence of the rule of law are the biggest obstacles to prosperity in African nations that otherwise have an enormous economic upside. The legacy of exploitation during the colonial era certainly hasn't helped, either. I agree with you about South Africa, and it would be great if countries like South Sudan could get their acts together because they have the potential to become very prosperous nations. Unfortunately, as we've seen in countries like Nigeria, fighting over that potential wealth is at the root of many of those countries' problems, which gets back to their lousy and corrupt leadership. It's sad and frustrating to see all this potential being wasted.
I do business with several of these countries and let me give you a little insight on Africa. I’ve personally traveled over there several times wine and dined with Princes that were heavily guarded by guys with M16s. Last time I flew over the airplane got stopped by a truck of guards before it hit the terminal and they boarded calling out my and my partners name. They unloaded us two right on the runway, talk about scary. The prince told me for security reasons they didn’t want us in the terminal and risk being kidnapped. Africa has several countries with the richest dirt that is ideal for growing rice and other crops that would more than feed their country. This particular country imports 160 million dollars of rice annually, on the seized government land they could actually grow enough to feed their country and export 80 million dollars worth of rice annually for around a 50 million dollar one time investment. No brainer right, the country began clearing the land by paying basically slaves with machetes 25 cents a day to save a couple million. Well low and behold there was a uprising, they killed the prince and a new king took over and killed the deal because anything that would guarantee that much wealth for the country would get him over thrown and killed. It’s basically you rule until somebody pays the military enough to look the other way then you die. It’s the craziest thing you’ve ever seen watching a one armed man cutting a 3ft’ wide tree down with a machete. I asked why he had one arm, the former king cut his arm off because he stole a loaf of bread to feed his 8 children. It is the definition of a shithole country that can’t govern to gain wealth in a mineral rich country. I require full payment up front to take an order from any African countries, more times than not those products are never used and rot on site. Some have good intentions for their people but the criminals always win out, always.
Thank you for sharing your own insights. I agree that there are more than enough criminals and corrupt government officials in Africa to go around. That being said I also see a small glimmer of light at the end of that long dark tunnel. The Zuma regime was probably as corrupt and criminal as all the rest but it has been held accountable by the South African court system. Not Zuma himself but some other aspects. For instance he apparently signed a deal for a nuclear reactor with the Russians without following the protocols laid out in the constitution, or something like that, and the courts overturned the entire deal because it was not done in accordance with the law of the land. Needless to say there were massive kickbacks and contracts for relatives and buddies in it that were all just slush money. But the mere fact that the court was willing to stand up against that kind of corruption is a sign of hope.
Trump even said he prefers Jews count his money over black people. How can that be racist? (eye roll)
As all you liberals say, he wasn't talking about the country. He was talking about the people. Africa has beautiful scenery and beautiful animals. It's the people that make the countries shitholes.
Fascinating - thanks for the insight. This speaks to the problem I mentioned concerning the absence of the rule of law across the continent (and the stability that comes with it). Without it, countries, economies and people can't prosper.
If the s***-hole nations that Trump mentioned had WHITE majorities, then the liberals wouldn't complain, now would they!?
The stable genius birther in The White House probably does not even realize that Africa is an entire continent.
He allegedly mentioned El Salvador, Haiti, and African nations...at least that's what the "Fake News" media told me.
Wouldn't need to, Trump would call them potential marks,er, ah, clients, yeah, that's it, clients, not shitholes.
Non responsive answer. You made this allegation; Which "white majority" "shithole nations" are YOU referring to?
