This is an expected result of a warming Arctic. The pool of deep cold air that used to hold the Polar Jet Stream to the very high latitudes is warming and so the Polar Jet Stream is beginning to wander more, occasionally bringing extremely cold air to the mid latitudes in some places and drawing warm air to the far north in others.

Expect more of that in the future.

nothing unusual about that kind of weather in foothills of rockies and its canada winter comes early...our local weather is influenced by cool/cold dry air masses from the arctic and warm moist air masses from the Pacific, and this region is right where they collide resulting in wild temp temp swings...

ya that could be true but in this case its normal alpine weather, there may be snow there but here I am on my deck drinking a cup of coffee in a t shirt, shorts, and sandals and I'm only 20 miles from those areas...
