I blame ideological intolerance. Not left vs right, but masculine vs feminine. It used to be that men and women were accepting that they have different values, and were willing to overlook their differences to build a family.

It seems like now they both require that they don't have to sacrifice anything, that they're entitled to a 'true love' where theres a Mr/Ms perfect out there who doesnt require the settling inherent in commitment.

Theres no such thing as perfection. We all have to settle for someone who is less than everything we want... or we have to settle for lonliness. I hope it doesnt take a social cataclysm for folks to re-recognize this, but I suspect it will.

Homosexuals were not given a right. Marriage is not a right.
Women voting was not a federal issue. States do not hand out rights. Rights exist independent of state. The change in alcohol was not about drinking, it was about manufacture, distribution and sales of it.
