Oh my gosh, Deckel.. I laughed so hard at this I woke up the startled dog. Thanks for the guffaw!

Can I assume then that chicken fried steak usually uses a lesser expensive cut of beef? One does not "chicken fry" filet mignon?

You can assume that if you wish, however, every time I have had it, it is more like a chuckwagon patty buried under gravy so to say that there is really steak in there would be generous.

I would say probably a tendorized cube steak. In CA we have 'Chilis' and they make a particularly flamboyant chicken fried steak. Lots of batter....Maybe even deep fried. Kind regards to you Sue Ann.

down here pretty much everything is just called coke. Although some use soda, but I never heard pop before. Well, a coke could be anything from a Pepsi, RC or Coke. Root Beer is Root Beer and Dr. Pepper is Dr. Pepper etc.

Steve, I believe we just received a fine education on chicken fried steak. Thanks for bringing up the subject. :)

Yeah, I really had no idea what a chicken fried steak was until today.

Now are they called sneakers or tennis shoes? To me they're sneakers but a lot of people on the west coast call them tennis shoes.

"drink" used as a noun is the more generic version and implicitly means soda pop in my area. "You want a drink?" is soda. "Do you want something to drink" means anything. Older people in my family call it pop. A lot od people will still call it a pop bottle but not use the word pop to describe the contents in my area as well . That always gives me a little chuckle.

LOL, okay. If I offered anyone a drink it sure wouldn't be coke. James Beam, Jack Daniels comes to mind. That reminds me, when I was young, Pepsi was nothing, number two was RC or Royal Crowne. Down here I would always want my dad to take me out to get an RC coca cola and a moonpie.

I suppose it shouldn't be that strange, but to hear what folks call certain things from different parts of this country, it is something else.

I buy moonpies by the case at Sams.

24 double decker sandwiches. I still buy the RC Coca Cola too. They are marshmellow pies, but I never heard anyone call them that. Besides Chocolate, they come in Banana and Vanilla.

I think I have had a strawberry one before. Ma be from a different company. I don't do Sam's. The savings are not there to justify the price of membership. I had a free one for a year that just expired a few months back and I only went there once--they day I got my ID card.

I found that paper products, paper towels, toilet paper etc, most can goods are cheaper than I can get anywhere else. Meats are expensive though. I suppose it is like anything or anyplace else. Somethings are cheaper and some are not. I go to Sams all the time, but rarely visit Walmarts. Go figure.

I think that about Aldi's. Walmart is more convenient to me than Sam's because Wally World is closer to the big box hardware stores. Our Sam's is not located within the natural flow when you need to make multiple stops and is near a traffic chokepoint which makes it time consuming to get in and out of even with its stoplight because the turn light is slow in coming and quick in ending to keep traffic from backing up too much on the feeder road. If nobody dilly dallies, you might be able to get 3 cars through before the light starts changing. I get my paper products from Family Dollar or Dollar General typically.

I shop at Family Dollar and Dollar General too. I never heard of Aldi's. Sam's ain't but 2 miles down the road from me, next to a Golden Corral and across the road from Home Depot. It is in a good spot for me.

Walmarts is further and it is usually crowded and they usually only have a couple of registers open and long lines. I hate long lines. For some reason Sam's will open more registers if shoppers start backing up. Strange because they are one and the same company.

I use to do all my grocery shopping at the Ft. McPherson Commissary, but they closed Ft. McPherson up around 5 years ago. Now it is Krogers for the most part and Sams.

Based on your stated location, there is an Aldi's near Walmart, so maybe that is why you never heard of it since you don't go there either LOL. It is a NO frills small grocery store imported from Germany (you need a quarter to release the shopping cart but get it back when you return it so they do not have to have a buggy pusher and you have to bring your own bags or buy them). Not a place to go if you are a name-brand shopper. Their milk/dairy is usually cheaper. They have a lot of European products like cheeses, mustards, etc. Some of their stuff is forgettable and some of it a good bargain. I think their meat is a little high for what it is. Like the clap from a German prostitute, it grows on you after you visit the place a few times. A little weird at first.

Sounds weird. Once in a while the wife and me will go to Food Depot in Stockbridge. Supposedly everything on the shelves is at cost. Once you check out they add 10%. I haven't figured out if they save me money or if it costs me more money once they add the 10%. I suppose it comes down to about every store having a gimmick of some sort. Kroger has their Kroger card, Food Depot has their 10%, your Aldi no frills and a quarter for the cart. Sams has no bags at all. I suppose it is what you like and get use to.

Most grocery stores operate in the 1-5% profit margin range so I suppose it would depend on how they calculate their costs or otherwise what their overhead is. It is a private company so their financials are unknown. The do have an ESOP plan though.

The whole time I was growing up they were called 'sneakers' or 'sneaks'...until they got fancy (and hideously expensive) , then they turned into 'running shoes' and eventually 'athletic shoes'

Growing up it was Coke, Coke or Coke. I never had RC until I dated a boy whose mother only kept RC on hand, no other soda. I drank it cause it was my only choice at his house, but when the relationship ended I never had another RC again.

What on earth is a MOON PIE? LOL

Growing up, the logo on the bottles of Pepsi said, "PEPSICO." I liked RC's because they came in 16 oz bottles vs. 12 oz for the others. Moonpies:

This must be one of the most ridiculous threads ever. It's not even humorous.
