OK, since I started this whole discussion regarding my vote (despite the fact that the discussion took a life of its own, which is good), I'd like to report that I have voted. I filled up my mail-in ballot and drove today to the central post office in my town to drop it into their main collection box, for added safety. It's done. Our state was the first one to mail ballots to voters; I got mine on Friday and I wanted to return it as soon as possible in case the issues with the USPS get worse or the Trump administration decides to sue our state too, and stops the mail-in ballots (I'd hope that those already cast would count).

So, here is what I did, and why:

    The White House:

I voted against Trump for president (that is, I voted for Biden, more because I want to dislodge Trump from the White House and Biden is the only candidate with a shot at doing that); after long consideration and despite some very good points made by some right wingers here, ultimately I can't forgive Trump for the deliberate lie of downplaying the virus while fully knowing by February 7th (at least) what the virus was about, of his own confession, on tape. He continues to downplay the pandemic, and continues to undermine efforts to get it under control, as per his recent actions of berating a reporter for wearing a mask and praising another one for not wearing one. We can't get out of this situation with a president who doesn't lead by example. He continues to listen to a full-blown clueless covidiot like Scott Atlas, his currently most favored adviser, and Scott Atlas is dangerous and needs to be removed from the White House as soon as possible, before his influence kills a bunch of Americans (as in, his boneheaded push for "herd immunity" when having no expertise whatsoever in this area, he has no clue about the unintended consequences of this extremely wrong approach).

Trump also sucks at healthcare and never even proposed something viable despite his campaign promises; just did his best to completely destroy the Affordable Care Act despite it being increasingly popular and providing protection for pre-existing conditions (to which he pays lip service while his DOJ tries to undermine it). Also, Trump's political appointees running the FDA and the CDC are doing a terrible job, introducing undue political pressure onto these agencies that used to be more purely scientific. I just can't believe that a change in the Oval Office won't result in some better people taking over (Trump is notoriously bad for surrounding himself with "only the best people" - insert sarcasm here).

In summary, Trump is HORRIBLE regarding healthcare and as a healthcare worker, this is my main preoccupation so his many shortcomings with this did him in, for me. Add to this, his insulting the US Military (an organization I very much respect and uphold) and his attacks on Democracy by trying to preemptively claim non-existing fraud to undermine the confidence in results, in case he loses. What he is doing is anti-democratic, transparently so, and despicable, like his DOJ suing 4 states to try to curb mail-in voting in the middle of a freaking pandemic.

    The Governor's Mansion:

I voted to re-elect my state's Democratic governor - I like him; he's done a good job with the Department of Health and Human Services, naming a very decent DHHS Secretary who is also doing a good job. Healthcare being my main concern, I want to reward him for it. The governor here hasn't really screwed up with the pandemic like others did (such as Cuomo).

    The Federal Senate and House:

I voted Republican for both the Federal Senate and the Federal House of Representatives, as a checks-and-balances thing for the eventuality that Biden croaks and Harris becomes POTUS; she is more to the left than Biden, in my opinion, and as an independent centrist, I want some balance. I did not like Biden's pick for veep, but oh well, like I said, my main concern is to dislodge Trump and his favorite covidiot Scott Atlas.

    The State Senate and House:

I voted Democrat for both the State Senate and the State House, to allow the governor to do more for healthcare; some of his initiatives (such as Medicaid extension) were thwarted by the Republican majorities in the State Senate and State House.

    State and local Judicial Races:

I voted Republican in all judicial races, again as a checks-and-balances precaution, to counter to some degree my trying to deliver the Governor's Mansion, the State Senate, and the State House to the Dems.

    Local Races:

I voted mixed Republican/Democrat in some other local races that are not relevant to a discussion, here.

    -------------

Thanks to everybody who provided valuable input. To those who tried to troll and to engage in personal attacks, I hope that they learn some civility (although the odds that they will, is small). Some of them now belong to my Ignore list.

Trump has offered federal troops to stop looting, while your buddies allowed tear cities apart.

Wonderful account! You thought about the values that were important to you for a President, the current context, Trump's choice of housemates and the overall balance of where you want the country to go.

It takes an incredible amount of strength not to be sucked into a partisan whirlwind, especially on an American politics forum. I find myself getting pushed over to the left almost immediately in reaction to some of the things that I see written, when the truth is that there's a decent bit of conservative reserve in me that I won't let be stifled either.

trump only offers troops to cities he knows will refuse to allow their city to become a war zone. Can you Imagine the artillery a troop could unload on American protesters??
Remember Kent state?? They used bazookas on kids protesting the Vietnam war.
Military action with today’s weapons would be nothing short of a massacre

So we just filled out our ballots. My husband was threatening to vote straight D ticket. (He's never voted main party for president in his life.)

We kind of matched our votes, but not 100%. We both voted Biden out of spite for Trump. His first D/R vote for president goes to Joe Biden. He threw up in his mouth a little.

I mostly voted against the incumbent, which in South Florida means mostly choosing republicans. When there was no opposition, I didn't vote. My husband wrote in silly things, like "Matlock" for public defender. (This is the guy who voted migrant caravan for president in 2016.)

We had some interesting state amendments this year. These are a big thing in Florida. They are quite often worded in such a way as to confuse people to vote against their interests. That's always the most fun part of the voting. Generically speaking, we voted less taxes, less government, more local decision making, and more power for the people.

Sure I can do that for you. No president kowtowed to foreign actors the way Trump has, specifically Russia. He has created massive divisions in the country. Race relations haven't been this bad in 70 years. His handling of the virus has been a disaster. Taking a look at the bad presidents of the past. Guys like James Buchannan. Andrew Johnson, Warren G. Harding, John Tyler, and Calvin Coolidge. All of them better than Trump. The national debt has grown 36% under Trump. I could go on, but why beat a dead horse?
The national debt has increased by almost 36% since Trump took office
