Thank you. Should the 44 MILLION Americans with Mental Disability including the 10 MILLION with Severe Mental Disability be provided for?

I have met many people who define Mentally Disabled as able.

Yes, anyone can experience temporary unemployment. That's what welfare is for. To cover you in between jobs.

Nothing whatsoever to do with elective 'career' poverty.

Just guessing, are you a white male and came from a middle class background? Cuz, you know, describing it as "easy" to do well.......I don't think a lot of folks would agree.
Is Japan a "major region?" Is western Europe? Their standard of living includes nationalized health care that's more efficient and less costly than ours. That's a big stress taken off their shoulders. Does quality of life factor in to doing well?

Can you take yourself to the bathroom? Make a cup of coffee? Walk to the front gate?

If you answered yes to these questions, you're not disabled.

He/she is absolutely right. It's VERY easy to do well, pretty much anywhere in the west.

FTR, I come from poverty, and paid my own way through college. I know a number of families who arrived in the west as penniless refugees (not even speaking English), and in a single generation were producing doctors and lawyers. It's VERY easy, if you want it. Many don't.

Even if a Moderately Disabled person "can" provide like a normal person, he/she will find it many many times more difficult.

Plenty of 'depressed' people in high places. Probably more than in low places.

Welfare has a five year "cumulative" limit.

    FAIL

And 4% unemployment means endemic poverty by design.

Moving in and out of the work force guarantees poverty

I can understand that some are unable to make a living just as I understand that some are too lazy to make a living.
I also know there are those that feign disability in order to be supported by someone else.

Almost no one is advocating for disabled people not getting help from society. That'd be ridiculous, I don't know how someone could claim to have a set of morals if they believed that.

The problem is that about, let's say 30-40% of the population, is all gimme gimme gimme but never gives (via taxation) anywhere near what they take out. It's not even close - and for some reason the upper class is demonized when they're one of the groups upholding our country's original vallues, for the most part. And it's just...never...enough - free education, free cars, free healthcare free phones and so on and so on

The politics of unquenchable envy is the discussion, we don't need to swing around a strawman about disabled people not being supported...

That dog won't hunt. No, Japan is not really a "major region" - East Asia is. But regardless, let's take Japan:
    Japan GDP Per capita: $38,894
    USA GDP Per Capita: $57,466

It's not even close - we have on average an extra $20,000 a year to spend compared to Japan. We are the wealthiest region in the world, by far. Don't believe me? Here's the EU:

    EU GDP Per capita: $35,632

I'll reiterate the point - what you're practicing and preaching is simply applying resentment/envy (to America's wealthier strata) to a situation where you really have no business doing so. I'd also argue that Europe's generally More Socialist model is highly unsustainable (especially given their upcoming demographic decline), but don't need to so meh...

Let’s be honest. It’s relatively easy to do well in American society – far easier to do so than in any other major region of the world.

Just depends on your skill level, age and local. Not always easy.

The more bodies in sick bay the more likely it is that the ship's going down.
