So why do you think they would pick that day to wear a U.S. flag shirt? Now if they always wear it on Tuesdays and that when cinco de mayo fell I think that would understandable. But WHY do you think they chose May 5th???

    - - - Updated - - -

Why do you think they suddenly decided go wear on May fifth?

Pretty clear these students were upset...why else would they wear a U.S. flag shirt all of a sudden?

I don't know that the students weren't also wearing flag shirts on other days, and neither do you.

So a person has to be upset to show pride for one's country? Lol. Let's cancel the Fourth of July!

What exactly are these students protesting? And why don't they protest Saint Patricks Day?

    - - - Updated - - -

So I imagine when Saint Patricks Day rolls around they will be wearing those shirts too...right?

    Source it.

Even if they did... Would you still hold the same position? I doubt it.

I would hold the same position if they were wearing the shirts for the sole purpose of being disruptive.

But for some reason Saint Patricks Day seems to bother the right far less than Cinco De Mayo.

If they wore them all the time I'd agree. I find that hard to believe.

The interesting thing is you could argue that wearing the American flag on your shirt on a specific day in order to be disruptive and cause problems in the school is pretty damn anti American.

    Why are you asking me?

I'm not a kid and I do not live in California, and apparently neither do you since you are asking everyone else they wear. Google it if you are that concerned about it!

Do hispanics wear mexican flag t-shirts on presidents day...seriously?

    Would you consider that disruptive?

I don't know, as there are a variety of hispanics, and many are not Mexican.

But you have already stated that the kids were doing it to be disruptive...you don't know that either, do you?

If they only wore it on that specific day, then yes, chances are they were doing it to be disruptive.

Unwarranted state intervention in education results in constitutional issues like these. The problem is public education. Abolish it.

And who do you think would be disruptive...the students who wore a symbol of the country they live in, or the people opposed to it?

We need to dump the Department of Education. Set up a voucher system and let parents take control of their children's education. The current Public Education system has failed our children in dramatic ways.

Why would you? Are you that easily offended?

Do you think this would be an issue if that was the case?

    1) The US Department of Education has absolutely NOTHING to do with this. Fact is, the USDoE is legally prohibited in interfering in any school. All they are mandated to do is dispense federal money.

    2) Unfortunately, too many parents are too busy, too lazy or too stupid to know what a quality education is all about when it comes to voucher schools.

    3) Sorry, the US Department of Education is not at fault. Look to your local community School Board and voters for blame.

Yes. Now for the "but". The but in this case is that you're dealing with H.S. students, probably mostly boys, full of the hormonal jungle juice of youth and up for about anything at any time. Including a figurative poke in the eye of Hispanic students, Mexican or not. And it works. So, the school says "no" and the highest court in the land agrees. Perhaps any other time or place, and there's neither harm nor foul, but not in this case.
