What's your point? Half a century isn't today is it :) NOW every loon has a platform for their personal crazy, and actually an audience for it! Clearly over the last four years the platform advantage has become a bit "One Sided" and that advantage goes to the folks the BIG tech have chosen to manipulate. Call it ease of programming or whatever floats ones boat, but there is hardly a dispute who they have chosen to control..

I guess it was a bad Idea to make Amazon pay tax's, looks like Jeff and his pal's don't like sharing the wealth as they preach others should do!

    Perfect example

It's not a public square, it is a private square. If you want a public square, where government is held accountable to force free speech by their voters, maybe you should advocate for government creating a public social media platform. Are you up for some of your taxes to be paid toward such an endeavor?

only one taking free speech away from people was Trump with his NDA's

though he did try to end free speech by ending section 230

anything you post on this site, is said by political forum, you're just telling them to say it for you, they have a right to not say some things, they do not have to rebroadcast your words to the world, they have a right to their own TOS

Show evidence that the current government opposes free speech? I'll wait.

The millions who are in favor of such nonsense all assume and believe it will not negatively impact them. Unfortunately that assumption will work in the end for only 10% of them. The other 90% will stumble around wondering what the hell happened.

Other than those who edit and politically censure should not be given liability protection.

Come now :) They are the mouthpiece of the Gubmint.. Day after day, year after year I have read this board and all the leftist quoting various media news and the extremely biased leftist anchors.. I can't even process how you would even try that ridiculous spin, I would have thought better of you.. I guess that's on me for thinking!

Those web sites are not required to support free speech. Government has no business telling them how to run their business as long as they stay within the law. The problem is with the people who use the sites.

Good point, but bullhorns are not conduits for communication used at utility levels. Also, if big corporations get to use their businesses to place their thumb on the political scale, shouldn't their income be reported as a political contribution?

Agreed. That is why Gab owns its own infrastructure.... every scrap of it. They gained 30 million users since the election and the owner is building servers as fast as possible to handle the demand. Interestingly enough he also has engineers who fled silicon valley giants facebook and google.

This means that private industry/Silicon Valley can no longer stop Gab. The only avenue left for progressives to stop them is via the federal government. Big tech and the Democrats realize this and are not actively exploring the modification of section 230 to force private platforms to remove "misinformation". THIS WOULD BE FEDERALLLY CURATED SPEECH. Your choice now is to either quit claiming you support free speech and to quit telling conservative to build their own OR oppose modifications to section 230 to allow the federal government to curate speech. There is no 3rd option.

More and more people are in the country who came from foreign countries with no free speech or their parents did. They see free speech as "noise" because they never had it where they came from. Then we have the college educated.

I checked out gab.com a couple of weeks ago, just out of curiosity. It's a cesspool. No wonder that even Trump was advised not to sign up, even though he was thinking about it. It's just not a reputable place. It's not saying a lot about the conservative extreme that they are signing up to the service en-masse.

    Fascists Mean Well, don't they!

Corporations working hand-in-glove with government fools many. It ain't the government, it's the corporations doing the censoring, so that's OK.

Yes, Fascists Mean Well, and they are inspired by authority. Nothing to go wrong there FMW

We have manipulated a couple generations into believing that their feelings and political correctness is more valuable than the support of free speech.

These same people also believe that if government isn't the entity preventing speech (which they support anyway called "hate speech") then there is no risk.

It is this type of backward mentality and ignorance to history that is positioning the US for a very bad future.
