You missed the fact that the original use of the quote in a letter Franklin sent, taken in context, means almost the exact opposite of how it is used these days.

Are you saying the reason you have to wait months for an appt is because of the insurance you're on? Which insurance company do you have your insurance through?

The way you state "CA still has Obamacare", it makes it seem like you're indicating Obamacare is a health plan, which it's not. ACA is health care reform. If I misread what you're saying I apologize.

Yet the test of time confirms the common understanding of the quote.

What is being sold now cannot be considered an insurance product. The new (Misleading) term is health care. Long wait times are due to the record levels of illness, mostly caused by consuming the standard American diet. (SAD)

What I meant was that CA ran with the Obamacare model and have their own version called "Covered California" We even have our own version of Medicaid called Medi-Cal.

After the ACA, we lost our plan, doctors and the kids pediatricians. Americans continue to get sicker and resources were spread thin before Covid. Eventually, there won't be enough healthy people in the workforce to make the ACA sustainable. 1/3 of Americans are already diabetic or pre-diabetic.

Yes, Americans are a bunch of fat slobs who over-eat and don’t exercise. Yes, I know there are exceptions who actually don’t eat to excess and exercise but we seem to be in the minority these days. Until people stop being gluttons this obesity trend will continue to get worse. For the life of me I don’t know how anyone can allow themselves to become obese. So f’d up.

An unhealthy diet is cheap and fast. When I was in school, there was always the one fat kid. Now most of them are fat!

Which goes to my point about people being lazy. My wife and I aren’t always jazzed about making healthy meals every night but we do it. Except for Sat night. That’s our night to go out to dinner. And I would argue unhealthy eating can cost more than healthy eating. Pre-made foods are always much more expensive than buying raw materials and cooking it yourself. Obvious exception being places like McDonalds. I wish people would stop being so freakin lazy.

Unhealthy eating does cost more, but you and I pay for it. Until it costs them, it will get worse. A fun idea would be to let those on a low income pay for their care with miles on a treadmill!

Why do you assume it’s only low income people who eat unhealthy. I know people who are well off who eat very unhealthy.

I made no such assumption. If someone wants to eat themselves to death and has the money to pay for it, enjoy. It is those on a low income that you and I have to pay for. I strongly oppose being forced to pay for the suffering of others.

Yes. Anybody advocating for government providing for somebody who isn't paying for such service is supporting socialized programs.

    Wow!

We Americans are so fortunate to have you and the rest of progressives provide for our best interests. Screw individual liberty, we need progressive collectivism to ensure we live our best lives.

I mean, just look at our collective urban centers, progressivism has worked wonders!

It is a common misunderstanding. Did you listen to the explanation or read the transcript? If so, you didn't understand it.

I read about this many years ago and appreciate you posting it. Interesting how the common misunderstand ended up standing the test of time. I made up my own line.

Nice rant. No idea what your rant has to do with my comment but I’m sure in your mind it makes sense

I don’t like how many of them are administered but I like programs that help make the lives of Americans better and bring us closer to other first world nations in terms of quality of life and accessibility. Is their any Republican talking point you don’t regurgitate?

So.. no. You haven't found a single government program that you didn't like.

Which is preciously the problem. If you can't understand the net loss caused by government spending to fund your utopian dream, then I don't know what to tell you. All that government money comes from somewhere, and after government mis-spending, corruption, and inefficiency we have a NET LOSS dollar for dollar.

But hey, when you view government as your daddy, I guess it doesn't matter.

Substantially cut military budgets, eliminate for profit prisons, introduce a much more progressive tax system to match other nations, broaden the tax base, bring down the cost of medical treatment, consolidate social programs and eliminate duplicative departments; that will be a good start.

And please, don’t lecture anyone on debts — you lost that privilege with trump’s seven trillion in just four years.
Or do whine about it and expose yourself for what you are

So cut defense, one of the federal governments enumerated constitutional responsibilities, in order to fund a bunch of programs that aren't granted to them? Basically, **** the constitution.

Secondly, you completely ignored to dollar for dollar economic loss of every dollar collected, and then allocated, through government programs.

So, you see the pandemic as justification to take daddies credit card for anything you see fit?

You don't want a government, you want a teet to suckle.

The lie was the insurance cos lying to millions who were told they had a healthcare plan when what they had was an unusable piece of swindling ****. Obama didn't think that anybody would be stupid enough to want to keep on being swindled when they had an alternative. He forgot that "nobody ever went broke by underestimating the intelligence of the American public" P.T. Barnum
