Exercise and diet does not change your genetic blueprint but it can alter the expression of your genes. Diet and exercise can change how a gene is expressed mainly through methylation. In methylation, clusters of atoms called methyl groups attach to the outside of a gene and make the gene more or less able to receive and respond to biochemical signals from the body altering the types of proteins a particular gene will express.
