Yes, but libertarians don't really care about them. All they care about is weed and nothing else. - - - Updated - - - MOD EDIT - Rule 3
Yeah, that's why you only hear Ron Paul, Rand Paul, Gary Johnson etc. only talk about weed... oh wait...
21. I guess this quiz is broad enough that I can still support lots of education funding, infrastructure spending, public transit, public healthcare provision and/or insurance, welfare, pollution controls, government R & D spending, anti-trust laws and assertive foreign policy and still be called "libertarian".
Sorry about your girlfriend. I know it hurts. But it's only when you accept that you have only yourself to blame that your hatred will subside. Good luck.
As posted in another thread, I don't think ANYBODY truly fits into the niche of any single political philosophy. We all have beliefs that cross lines as well as dislikes. The only thing I dislike in politics are automatons who believe only their strict interpretation is correct.
Well since there are a lot of libertarians who don't support any of those things I didn't expect to "pass" this test. I'm just surprised, is all, as I find many libertarians to be stereotypically purist "No True Scotsman" types. I suppose then I should be taking this as a positive as the definition isn't being drawn so narrowly.
So the question then is, which ideology dehumanizes humans the greatest, for all of them do. I think conservatism, not libertarianism nor liberalism is the worst offender. Conservatism is basically Randism, an ideology based upon human selfishness taken to the limits, for the good of the poor. Conservatism might not believe in biological evolution, but they worship economic and social Darwinism. They see the world as a jungle, and want to keep civilization from rising above that darwinistic jungle. They think this is the highest good. Which illustrates their perverted sense of the good. Conservatism is a luxury that arose late in human history, when the entire tribe was no longer important for human survival. Yet for perhaps 50,000 years or more, man lived a collective centered existence, and a conservative would have been killed, or left to die all by his lonesome if he exhibited what conservatives exhibit today.
I never knew I was a liberal until a conservative called me one. After a few years of them calling me a liberal as if it were a slur, I started to call myself a liberal just to (*)(*)(*)(*) them off. The sad truth about libertarians is that while they believe in some very sane proposals, they get themselves all twisted up in free markets, small government and the rights of property over people. If you read the libertarian platform, it sounds reasonable but not unlike what I believe is a liberal position on many things. The problem is when you ask a libertarian to use their ideas in real life situations. Then you get Rand Paul saying he is for states rights on matters like equal access to public buildings.
That's because you're basically talking about big L libertarians. libertarian is an area on the specturm, just like liberal and conservative, it just follows a different axis. And don't let the results of this PF poll fool you. The study found that with this test more Americans are communalists than libertarians. Read the first post. There is a description of how to take it, and it's pretty simple. There are 9 issues, with two options. If you agree completely with the first, you put a 1. If you agree completely with second option, you put a 7. But, like most people, you're going to fall between, so you just enter a number based on where you feel you fall. So if you're right in between the two options, a 4.
51 - Communistal I scored 7 on all the questions except the last two (marijuana and pornography) where I scored 1.
My score was 24, so I guess I'm barely Libertarian. It's my impression that Libertarians believe in "states rights," especially when it comes to legalizing weed, but it's likely progressives are more likely to smoke the stuff. I have never sucked any kind of recreational smoke into my lungs. That's stupid IMHO, possibly with the exception for true medical use.
I'm happy to realize I'm a Libertarian, even though I vote Republican. I threw my vote away on a number of occasions voting for candidates who had no chance whatever of winning, but the Democrat Party has become so dangerously and radically Socialist we just can't throw our votes away anymore just to "make a statement". America-hating hyperliberal socialists like Obama have GOT TO BE STOPPED before they totally destroy the Constitution and the United States of America it gives life to. Realize, Barack Obama has broken the law (the LAW) at least three times in the past three years! We cannot have any more of this kind of radical socialist dictatorship with rule by some clown's "pen and phone" ever again....
