    There's that biased wording again.

We can have very effective border security without that big expensive wall. We should spend those billions on

    camera drones
    additional border patrol officers
new border stations with family housing
additional judges and advocates to get immigrants processed in a more timely manner
a comprehensive database to keep the bad ones from falling through the cracks

And a few other things that escape my memory at the moment. In other words, 21st Century solutions, not 12th Century. The smugglers are already cutting through those new sections of fence with inexpensive cordless power tools.

It's already legal where I live and that suits me just fine. It's a plant, and should bever have been outlawed in the first place.

Yes. It has long outlived the purpose for which it was designed. The president is everyone's president, and everyone should have an equal say in who holds that office. When the winner of the most votes loses the election, that's a broken system. When voters in less populated states, such as Wyoming, have a nearly 4 to 1 advantage in EC representation than the voters of California, for example, that's a broken system. Whether you like California or not, 3 out of 4 of their voters don't deserve to be disenfranchised.

    I'm fence-sitting on that one.

On the one hand, none of my ancestors owned slaves; they didn't immigrate until well after the Civil War, so I don't feel like I owe anyone on that score.

On the other hand, the way black people have been treated in the 150 or so years after emancipation is appalling and ugly. There is more poverty among minorities than among whites, more unemployment, more despair and less hope for the young, and far too much incarceration.

I think for me it would depend upon how those reparations are allotted. Just giving individuals cash seems wrong, but allocating billions to assist in leveling the field in regards to housing, education, health care, and child care (more on that later) and a myriad of other benefits seems very fair to me, and a very good investment for everyone's future.

That article was a fake, they produced no recent pictures, I wish the left would just admit they dont want a wall because they think it's a monument to Trump after all they had no problem with Bill's wall, bush jr wall, trumps wall.

Yes. Those billions came from the labor of workers we all paid to educate. Few did anything to earn the gigantic tax break they got from Trump, and they are not soending that largess of their workers, nor to create new jobs. They've by and large done just what was predicted by every economic expert with half a brain: bought back their own stock, thereby pumping up the share price and creating big fat dividends for major share holders, mostly other billionaires.

IMO they should be giving more back to those who created their enormous wealth.

Most conservatives are nostalgic for the 1950s. Well, I'm nostalgic for the Eisenhower tax code, the sliding scale of income taxing that created the middle class.

The middle class was created by a fluke in history WWII not by taxes.

    The federal death penalty?

Yes. As good as our system of justice may be, innocent people do often get convicted. I would rather pay the cost of incarceration for life, with all that entails, than to wrongfully end the life of even one innocent person.

Yes. Many of the working poor have to work an extra job just to make ends meet. Many more can't make those ends meet because child care is so expensive. Like health care, I don't think anyone should have to go broke to pay for it. Seems counter-productive. More parents would work if they didn't have to worry about that, which means they'd be paying taxes, and boosting local economies, etc.

This country under Democrats seems to encourage the poor to remain poor.

Absolutely yes. Of course, that could become moot if the now-blue Virginia State Legislature follows through with their plan to ratify the now 40 year old Equal Rights Amendment. That would solve the question of pay equality. It would make inequality unconstitutional.

The fencing they are replacing is good enough. A wall like the one Trump kept talking about before he got distracted would prevent border patrol officers from seeing who was on the other side. The big slats are just as effective as a solid wall, while allowing vidibility. Also, the slats are just far enough apart for most of the local wildlife to pass through, thus no interference with their habitat and ecosystem.

But just a wall won't cut the mustard, we need those other things I listed much more than we need a wall.

Right wing rhetoric with no basis on fact.

Minorities tend to vote Dem because that party is accepting and inclusive. That's messier than the in-lockstep-with-Trump GOP, but fresh ideas seldom come from the same tired old white guys who've been running things since the founding.

I think everyone should have coverage--preferably coverage they pay for. That coverage should include abortions.
I don't think Medicaid should cover illegal aliens, with the one exception being that it should cover emergency medical coverage provided to illegals. This is only because hospitals are required by law to treat all emergency patients who come through their door, and we can't just put the cost of treating illegals on the doorsteps of hospitals.
If there really is a cheaper and more efficient alternative, yes. I don't believe in protecting fossil fuel from cheaper and more efficient alternatives.
No. But I believe in more tax breaks for low income individuals who are trying to go to school.
Yes. I think anyone who purchases a firearm should have to undergo a background check regardless if buying from a licensed seller or a private person.
I am in favor of cost effective border control. I don't think it has been demonstrated that a boarder wall is cost effective.
I am in favor of legalizing all drugs. I say this as someone who has never had an illegal drug. But I think legalizing drugs will result in a sharp decline in gang violence and put the hurt on the cartel. It will also reduce the cost of currently illegal drugs, so addicts won't spend themselves into ruin before they seek treatment. I think we should also limit the places where people can legally buy drugs (see the "Hamsterdam" model from The Wire).
I think it is worth asking whether the electoral college model is more equitable and just than the popular vote model. Why should the vote of one person in Alaska have more significance than the vote of one person in California?
    Absolutely not.
I believe we should return the capital gains rate back to 20%.
Yes. The death penalty is hideously expensive.
    No.

Sorry, I seem to have missed the segue. I was discussing the ERA. What does that have to do with illegals? Talk about dreaming ... you just dreamed up something I never mentioned. Nice trick.

The housing projects failed but cities have changed their housing, but still maintain thousands of apartments for poor people. They just spread them around. Most just look like regular apartment buildings, and few people know about them. Wherever you live, whatever the nearest city s, they most certainly have a housing authority that maintains at least a thousand units. Plus many private landlords have section 8 housing.

    1--Free abortion
Free healthcare would/should cover this, but there should also be the option to give the newborn to couples wanting to adopt without the red tape. Many people that oppose abortion are the very same people that oppose social programs that would help the baby grow up to be a healthy adult.
    2--Free medical for illegal aliens
We shouldn't act like barbarians. Anyone on U.S. soil should be treated if necessary.
    3--Eliminating fossil fuels
Yes, but in phases. Air travel would be the last to phase out fossil fuels, as perhaps an advanced form of electric power will be devised. Suppressed alien technology will speed this phase out along if it can be outed and handed over to the public where it belongs. Govt. has no right to hide it.
    4--Free college and vocational schools
Of course. A well educated population is less prone to manipulation by petty issues, more independent, more health & environment conscious, more productive, and more adaptable. Plus, they pass those values along to their children.
    5--More gun control laws
No. Like drugs, it's better to create a society where people don't feel the need to own/use it. The effort to ban things people want or need is too costly and ripe with corruption, secrecy & black market dangers. In the meantime, allow guns, but not within the city limits of larger cities (eg, cities of 50,000 people or more).
6--No secure border or border wall
Rather than waging war on sovereign nations, overthrowing regimes, raping/hoarding/destroying the world's natural resources, creating scarcity, spreading poverty/disease/suffering & violence worldwide, and creating the conditions that force people to emigrate, it would be wiser to share knowledge, technologies, and resources (when necessary). And also keep soldiers at home for defense only, while supporting nations that are under invasion with aid (not soldiers).
    7--Legalizing weed
ALL drugs should be legal. The govt. has no right to tell what someone can/cannot put in their body. And like guns, it is better to create a society where people do not feel the need to use it in the first place.
    8--Abolishing the Electoral College
Of course. But also abolish the Executive and Judicial branches, leaving only the Congress as the means by which to make necessary changess. Let Congress truly & directly represent the people rather than representing a system of enslavement. Let Congress be the people's direct voice rather than the middle-man between the people and the ultra-rich ruling class. Also, take money out of politics (no wages, no bribes), and allow all and any parties to have an equal voice. Terms for members should be indefinite as long as the people feel they're doing a good job. Ultimately, the party system will fizzle out.
    9--Reparations
No. Instead ensure that ALL people obtain what they need to be educated, healthy, and able to pursue their creative interests/talents. Each person should be ensured clean food, clean water, clean air, inexpensive housing, free education, free utilities, free transportation, and free communications. The focus of society should be to ensure that humans and all live forms thrive, not just survive.
    10--Taxing billionaires
We and many other life forms share this planet. There's a need to share its resources, as well as ensure that no one person or group is able to leverage so much power as to dictate the distribution of resources at the expense of the Many. Money should not be allowed to be used as a leveraging tool to hoard & abuse the earth's natural resources which ALL life forms depend on for their health and well-being. Also, the govt. should be the primary employer of essential goods and services that we all depend on. This will eliminate the need for a Federal tax...and, because it is not-for-profit, private companies will be unable to compete. Private companies would end up being nothing more than restaurants, recreational sites, or specialized guilds run by family members and/or friends.
    11--End the death penalty
Of course. Create conditions of greater health, abundance, and less stress on the people and the people will commit fewer crimes. For those that are a continued danger to others, there are various methods of rehab...including hypnotherapy, meditation techniques, and technological devices that stimulate neuro connections. All inmates should be allowed to pursue a productive job and/or education while in prison. No gangs, drugs, or violence should be tolerated in the prison system. Prison should be nonprofit, and focused on rehab on multiple levels, with healthful food, therapy, and creative work...not punishment.
    12--Universal child care
Of course. A child should be raised in good health within a creative, fun, stress-free environment. They need the support, love, and guidance of patient, understanding adults who can interact with them at their most vulnerable stage in life.
    13--Allowing the incarcerated to vote
Let's focus on rehab. Voting is not an issue that an inmate should be concerned about here, especially in an unhealthy state of mind.
14--Require equal pay certification for companies
No. Private companies have a right to pay whatever they like. Likewise, employees have the right to quit that job, and they will if the govt. becomes their primary employer. No on equal pay for private companies. Yes on equal pay for public/Govt. jobs. To be competitive with public/Govt jobs, private companies will have to accept equal pay.
    15--Rent relief for the poor
Sure, when necessary. No one should be forced to live on the streets. Right now there are 6 empty houses for every homeless person. There's no need for anyone to be on the streets. But in the meantime, they should also be put into jobs they are capable of and/or reenter education/trade school.
    16--Universal basic income
Sure...when necessary. But they must agree to accept a job they are capable of and/or reenter education/trade school.
    17--Increasing the Supreme Court justices
No. Eliminate the Supreme Court/Judicial branch. This branch is nothing but more unnecessary bureaucracy, as well as a means to further distance the people from direct governance...and hence, another avenue for corruption. We need only the direct voice of the people. The govt. should exist for the people only...not for itself. It makes no sense for a govt. to reinforce its own legitimacy, as it exists only for the people. It is only be means of political & social manipulation, propaganda, and deception that a govt. can condition the people into accepting a govt. that stands above them.

Just gotta ask you about this one. So you think that pawning the kids off to a daycare center where it is a person's job to care for other people's kids is going to provide support, love, and guidance? I have never understood how people can let their infants and toddlers and young kids (those vulnerable stages) be raised and influenced by people they hardly even know at a daycare center.
