Atheism/ agnosticism is on the rise throughout Europe, but the problem is that it does not do a great job filling some of the vacuums that theism leaves behind. It does not do as good a job in providing a sense of communal experience, structure and unity as organized religion does. Historically a religion's demise corresponds with another rising to fill the social, political needs. I think in the short run, it is likely that Islam is likely to gain traction for those Europeans who crave that stuff until they grow disenchanted or die off. But over the long haul, theism is going to be the loser as younger generations take over.

 

yep, I like our secular legal system here in the USA, but it's also at risk of attacks from the religious that want religious law to rule supreme

a society must be vigilant and not allow any one religion to take it over as theocracies are never a good thing

one thing I know for sure is that Christians will stand by Atheists in this country if Muslims try to push Sharia law on us, heck they pushed back against Catholics once too, in fact many of our laws protecting us from religion was because of Christian infighting ironically

I've not mocked anybody who smokes cigarettes just because they want to and don't quite care about the health risks. Only one particular man who claims to be motivated by petty spite.

 

I agree with not mocking smokers, but.... the oldest person to have ever lived was a smoker, until a non-smoker takes that title, hard to say, so may not be a number one health risk for them

 

in the USA Christians are the biggest threat to religious freedom for all, but if Christians were not there, Muslims would move in to fill the void, no doubt about that

If Jesus of Nazereth WERE around today, he would be leading the charged AGAINST "Christianity". Just like his attacks against the money lenders in the Temple. He would be ashamed of what people have turned his name into.

 

Nonsense - Jesus is so full of hatred that that psycho to this very day (or else he'd have spoken up - assuming he's "divine" as claimed) won't even let, say, ethical Buddhists into his invisible bigoted gated-community up in the sky (per many Biblical verses). Chocked-full of hatred for innocent people. God/Jesus is the ultimate ego-maniac, either "believe that he's real" or that psycho set up a system where you get barbarically burned alive - burned alive for much much longer than even HITLER tortured his very worst Jewish enemy. So Hitler kind of seems like a step UP, ethically, than God/Jesus. Will God/Jesus change that policy today (he's all-powerful, he COULD, right?)? A sane, loving person of course WOULD.....but not God/Jesus, because he's either a legend or not sane/loving - either way far below my standards to worship.

 

Evolution has been proven, and the earth is not 6000 years old or so like the geneologies from Adam to Jesus to the present add up to. God/Jesus failed - so of course they are not divine as advertised.....the ultimate con-job - no one has conned more people than Jesus.
