ironically it was malcom fraser who overcame the xenophobic racism of his own party colleagues in the 70s to allow the viet refugee boats in. The Liberal party has since been regressing backwards from that point, one reason why Fraser himself detests John Howard.

 

Yes if your old enough, or can remember, or willing to overlook your prejudices, it is easy to see that refugees have been contributing to Australia for most of our existence. When we have needed people we bring them in, then we racially abuse them. I have seen it with the Italians we brought in as labourers, the Chinese that came during the gold rush, the Vietnamese refugees.

We hear all the time that they are destructive to our way of life, but I have seen nothing but good come from our multiculturalism. We have grown out of our stubbies, blue singlets and thongs into a truly modern and full culture. Yes things will change, but hey, that's what happens.

I was once a young man, full of spirit and big dreams. Now I am mature, my spirit is still as strong, just mellowed a little. I have become a modern man, I have grown from sculling beers with my mates, driving home half tanked, demanding my dinner and a quick 5 minute romp.

I now love a good red, if I drink out I get a taxi, but I usually drink at home and with meals. I love to cook, Chinese, Indian, Mexican, Greek, Thai etc, and the rest well it's now 10 minutes lol.

 

Heaven help Australia if we ever revert back to anything remotely resembling the White Australia Policy.

The same way. I wouldn't be surprised if Fraser himself detests Julia Gillard too.
