Duels were not outlawed by the Founders'. Are you saying the Founders' were too stupid to do background checks? Lets face it, they won a revolution, they recruited miscreants and others who would willingly fight the King's authority. Nobody would have a greater understanding of what's needed to remove oppressors than they did, and if it was their intent to limit the right to keep and bear arms they would have. They didn't, and for a good reason... If there were no felons its because murderers in their time didn't face 5yrs in prison then parole, they faced the gallows...
Oh, there were felons at that time. Thieves and such. But the genius people who founded this country were fully aware of the potential for exploiting quibbles in the law, and they wrote the Second Amendment to protect the freedom of the people, not any individual or group of individuals who might suffer from criminals. The Founders expected firstly that the people would take means to defend themselves, and that the law would function to punish the criminals. The "gotta stop the criminals" argument is so weak and transparent that it's painful to watch them still pulling it out. Everyone knows that the unconstitutional Gun Free Zones are what's enabled many of the mass murderers of the last 30 years to stack up their victims like cordwood. There have been many, many other attempts at mass murder in public places, yet they don't get attention....because a citizen with a gun cuts the spree short and there's only a two or three bodies. The ONLY goal of the Left is disarmament, and that's as obvious as the boogers in Obama's nose.
In our race towards our brave new world of universal surveillance, the day is fast approaching when almost NOBODY will fare well in a "background check".
