Fortunately the few in this area tend to stick to the river and the countryside. I did have a smaller one roost on top of the light pole at my old house one day for awhile. Haven't seen them in a couple years though I hear they are still around. Last time I saw one it was coming up off the river over an overpass I was on. Can't say that I am a fan of them generally anyway.
. Here in Dallas, my neighborhood has lots of tall trees [mostly oak and pecan], lots of squirrels and hungry hawks. I sometimes see a hawk fly into my neighbor's tree. While he perches watching for a squirrel he is almost invisible. .
They are impressive predators, but we haven't had any problems with the ones who have passed through here. Where in AK were you? I spent a summer out in Nushegak near Bristol Bay many moons ago and it was one of the best experiences of my life. I love Alaska.
Predators' are gonna be predators, and easy pickings are always a target...chickens, baby animals, pets , anything that be overpowered and/or carried away....why in more agrarian times they were deemed pests and shot on sight.
