There are lot of gullible people around who inhale everything they read in the internet, and then rush to the social media to repeat it. This propaganda piece was promoted by a GOP Congressman to make it look more believable, and it based on the number of posters repeating it, the approach worked.

 

It started really well, but quickly became an exercise in patience and tolerance, both of which I have very little. The AR platform is very popular with women and this guy says AR ownership is merely about masculinity.

And furthermore he assumes that every citizen who owns an AR just wants to be able to say "Look I have the same gun the Army does."

I notice you ignored my previous question. I know you think you answered before I asked by saying you don't support mandatory abortion. This is my issue. You came up with an imaginary behavior that you don't practice yourself, wouldn't practice yourself, and probably wouldn't satisfy whatever problem you think exists offloading a woman's responsibility to an unborn child. If you actually think $5000 would help a mother forced to give birth, why don't you practice that behavior regardless of what laws you support? There's lot's of women around the world forced to bear children. Get after it.

But I realize this thread isn't about that. It's about promoting child safety. So what do you do in your life to promote child safety? What sort of impact does telling people to destroy guns have on that effort? How many children have you saved? I've helped improve the lives of a good number of specific children. I've played a role in removing them from abusive environments, and mistreatment. I've played a role in helping scared, confused parents understand how to care for their own special needs children. I play a continued role in their lives even after they have been re-united with parents, family, or move out on their own.

What's your strategy? Tell people to do things so that you don't have to do things?

 

There are more powerful rounds, but clearly AR15 is powerful enough to end human lives, especially ones as small as the ones in TX (5-10 yr olds). What are you trying to argue?

Is there any risk any of those shots would go astray? I don't think any of the partygoers have any training in handling assault weapons and I don't want to put my neighbors at too much risk. They'll probably just head to the basement when the party gets going.

This is where compromise comes into play.

If we, as a society stopped stigmatizing mental health issues, make mental health care costs affordable, incorporated sensible guidelines (like required gun safety classes,) and add extra prevention measures to vulnerable places, these incidents would go down, the liberals would calm down and the republicans would have to say, "thoughts and prayers," less frequently.

There is a win in there, somewhere. Back in the less shitty days of politics, the people we sent to DC talked to each other. Now it's just scream, shout, scream louder, shout louder, rinse/repeat. Each team completely ignores all the crap their team is up to, while crawling the internet for the most shitty fringe stuff a small fraction of the other team does. This then makes our entire political discourse about the fringe minority on either side.
