Here we go; on Monday Biden in a statement commemorating the Sandy Hook Elementary tragedy declared gun violence a "national health crisis" and called for "common sense" gun laws. Ah, good 'ol "common sense" gun laws, which in Democratic parlance is defined as restricting the 2nd Amendments rights of the "law abiding" to whatever degree they can get away with in the courts (see California), and they NEVER are satisfied. Sorry me Lib compadres here, but "tut-tuts" and "he'll never..." AIN'T gonna cut it! His campaign platform and statements in the primaries were quite clear, you wanna say he's lying, well that's on you, I'll take him at his word. I just hope the last gun I purchased (or plan to) from an online dealer reaches my local FFL before he gets his damn hand on that Bible. Should the Democrats take those Georgia senate seats.... open season on the 2nd Amendment, nothing will be off the table!
Biden is motivated mainly by a desire to punish a group that has been a thorn in the side of Democrats ever since Democrats tried to hide their soft spot for violent criminals with their specious claims that gun control is crime control.
As it is impossible to demonstrate the necessaty for and efficacy of the restrictions Biden seeks to lay upon the right to keep and bear arms by the law abiding, there's no sense, common or otherwise, in any of them.
They've had common sense gun laws and restrictions in Chicago and Detroit for years. You can see how well that has worked out for them. There have been almost 3,000 shootings in Chicago this year alone.
The Clinton Assault Weapons ban cost Democrats the South. #RESISTANCE BEARS FRUIT: BREAKING: ATF Backs Down, Withdraws Guidance, Comment Request on Pistol Brace ‘Objective Factors’ Classification.
Just for accuracy, I'm noting that the original ban on their import began in 1989, under President George H. W. Bush, through executive order. When it passed Congress, in '93, it was supported by fmr. Republican Presidents Reagan & Ford (& 77% of the public). Lastly, the person who TRIED, unsuccessfully, to REMOVE this BAN from the Crime Bill was a DEMOCRAT, then-chair of the House Judiciary Committee, Rep. Jack Brooks, D- TX. So it is inaccurate to depict this as a strictly partisan issue. https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ass...t George H.W.,passed the United States Senate. In January 1989 34 children and a teacher were shot in Stockton California . The gunman used a semi automatic AK-47 firearm; five children perished.[4][5][6]:10 President George H.W. Bush banned all imports of semi automatic rifles in March 1989,[7] and made the ban permanent in July 1989.[8] The assault weapons ban tried to address public concern about mass shootings while limiting the impact on recreational firearms use.[9]:1–2 In November 1993 the ban passed the United States Senate. The author of the ban, Dianne Feinstein D-CA, and other advocates said that it was a weakened version of the original proposal.[10] In January 1994 Josh Sugarmann, executive director of the Violence Policy Center, said handguns and assault weapons should be banned.[11] In May of that year former presidents GERALD FORD, Jimmy Carter, and RONALD REAGAN wrote to the United States House of Representatives in support of banning "semi-automatic assault guns." They cited a 1993 CNN/USA Today/Gallup Poll that found 77 percent of Americans supported a ban on the manufacture, sale, and possession of such weapons.[12] Rep. Jack Brooks, D-TX, then chair of the House Judiciary Committee, tried to remove the ban from the crime bill but failed.[13] The Public Safety and Recreational Firearms Use Protection Act, commonly called the federal Assault Weapons Ban (AWB and AWB 1994), was enacted in September 1994. The ban, including a ban on high-capacity magazines, became defunct (expired) in September 2004 per a 10-year sunset provision.

Either a 5-4 or 6-3 Supreme Court ruling smacking down a ban on semi-auto weapons and/or forced registration under NFA (especially if it is $200 per item). Also, many red states plan on ignoring a federal ban in the same way blue state laws spent years ignoring federal drug laws. They legalized weed at the state level and said “screw the feds”. Red states would ignore a federal semi-auto ban and say “screw the Feds”. Many local country sheriffs won’t enforce it on the people who elected them. Those same people won’t elect a sheriff who will.
In the meantime local LGS is literally cleaned out, maybe 75-100 guns in the entire store, usually about 1500. Its nuts.
@joesnagg Been waiting on a PDW since August. Springfield described the delay as a "parts shortage", but in-truth, the weapon isn't available due to ATF activism that same month. Been thinking of cancelling but hell I probably have more of a claim to file grievances if I keep the order and complain when they retroactively void the transaction. Item was paid-for 5 months ago and now I'm at the mercy of federal bureaucracy. https://www.thefirearmblog.com/blog/2020/10/06/honey-badger-pistol-2/
As far as the 2nd Amendment goes, I expect nothing good to come from a Democratic controlled government. My hope is that the Democrats will recognize the degree to which this country is starkly divided and not risk further division by immediately introducing more feel-good-do-nothing gun laws. However, from what I've seen from the more virulent members of the anti 2A crowd, they are neither perceptive nor do they have the genuine best interest of the country at heart. I predict that the anti 2A crowd will wait 6 - 8 months before introducing more useless gun laws "for the children" and then start with another deliberately vague "assault weapons" ban then go for magazine restrictions and from there, anything goes. Our only hope is that the Supreme Court will strike down whatever absurdities the Democrats cook up that will be welcomed only by faint-hearted hoplophobes and the nation's criminal element. After all, there's nothing that criminals and tyrants want more than a disarmed citizenry.
Also expect a lot of price controls (such as minimum wage increases) and the subsequent shortages that always result from them (in this case, a shortage of jobs). Also expect a very accelerated devaluation of the dollar (which will be expedited by the implementation of a "universal basic income", which will increase the supply of money without a corresponding increase in the supply of wealth). Also expect stocks to go completely down the crapper... Expect VERY hard times ahead... Get out of the big cities if you can... Start growing your own food if you can... Have a generator on hand if you can...
I wonder if any of the Republican Senators or Members of Congress recognized, as they were barricaded in offices or laying on the floor of the Capitol, that school children have been forced to do the same now for years. That they routinely have drills to teach them what to do in cases of a shooting.
Nice argumentum ad passiones fallacy you have there - one that illustrates your ignorance. Member of Congress are allowed to carry guns in the Capitol - school faculty, administration and staff, almost exclusively, are not. Gun-free zones, see, only serve to gt innocent people killed - as intended.
Aside from a frontal assault on gun rights, the Dems have already telegraphed part of their intentions in the add-ins for elements of Dem agenda items (impassable as standalone bills) they tried to do with the $2,000 Covid relief bill they had hoped to get passed as their price for giving relief to citizens. They will resurrect the bill, along with the ad-ins sort of like one might do when giving a dog a pill it doesn’t want, by wrapping it in meat, hoping it will go unnoticed or at least more palatable than presented alone. Then too, expect, likely any if not all of Trump’s executive orders canceling those of Obama’s admin be reinstated within a week or so. Then, their will be follow-on executive orders as a means of by passing the legislature as the admin usurps the legislatures power figuring any SCOTUS challenge will not happen. They have lost their immediate path to use the SCOTUS to act as their by pass of the amendment process with activist judges until they can re-stack the courts. Then you will see them eat away at the Constitutional provisions that prevent consolidation of power. The subtleties of the politics process will become a baseball bat for playing hardball. The real question is how they will deal with the extremists in the party and the influences of ANTIFA, Black Lives Matter, and other divisive elements of their party’s tenuous solidarity.
If by sidestep you mean demonstrate how your comment has no relationship to the facts of the matter, then sure.
Having riders on bills is I one reason taxes are so high and why we pay millions for things trivial non essential esoteric research projects that otherwise wouldn’t pass on their own merit. I would support an amendment for all bills related to taxation be subject to the single subject rule as is required by the majority of states and many other countries like Ireland, Australia, Sweden, and Switzerland. But, riders are an oft used tactic... basically putting a bill’s passage up for ransom for someone’s pet projects... one additional way to occlude the average taxpayer from knowing the full extent of bills as well as a obscuring bill riders intended to benefit campaign contributors.
I think they will move to classify all semi-automatic rifles as Class 3 NFA weapons, universal registration, licenses required for each individual calibre of ammunition, etc.
