The US contributes more than 185 other countries combined. Tell me, how you would make THAT up? Britain contributes 4%. You can have it. It's a total waste now...

    Let's be more specific.

In the UN Peacekeeping operations for the fiscal year 1 July 2016-30 June 2017, the budget came to $7.87 billion, with the United States paying 28.57% of that.
(And that is despite the fact that a US law made in 1999 set a 25% cap on the U.S. contribution to U.N. peacekeeping)

    http://www.un.org/en/peacekeeping/operations/financing.shtml

In total mandatory payments and voluntary contributions, the US gives a total $8 billion annually.

If you seriously think that 192 countries will be jumping with joy to "make up the shortfall", then perhaps you should search for a career as a science fiction writer.

So you're predicting the UN will sink without trace if the US withdraws? I don't think so.

One thing it does is that it allows the US to send oil tankers to the Persian Gulf. Google UNCLOS and right of innocent passage.

    Just as an example.

It is about time. Get us out of the UN, and the UN out of the US.

Israel will be just fine, but it is funny to see the sudden concern for Israel.

It is time for a new world order. The anti-semitic UN can go its own way, and we'll go our way, perhaps forming a new international body led by us, comprised of countries of truly shared values.

    Don't let 'em fool you.

Progressives have absolutely no concern for Israel.

Member countries love the U.N. because they can vent their propaganda against the U.S. and Israel while having the Americans pay for the cluster.

    Enough is enough.

Cuba didn't cope just fine. It's a horribly poor country where hospitals don't have aspirin and the typical car is 60 years old.

LOL. After Trump got elected can you name just ONE country that truly shares values with the US? Give it a try. Because all I hear from Trump is alienation of our traditionally closest allies.

Lol, just what do you think the UN can accomplish without the US?? You seriously think the UN could defeat US and israeli forces?? They are utterly incompetent in military matters. They can barely handle humanitarian aid missions. They are a joke.

    - - - Updated - - -

Nope, just the alienation of liberal loons everywhere. Europe is shifting to the right. Our alliances will be just fine. With or without the UN's existence

As much as Liberals love to spin their POV, the US still close allies, regardless of who is president.

Great Britain is still our closest ally, along with Canada, Australia, Israel and Japan.

good grief, more idiotic suggestions from rwers, who clearly cant see past their noses. complain all you want, but the us cannot win against the world. look how we did with iraq, doing it all by ourselves. in the end we still needed regional support.

rwers clearly do not think these things through by suggesting, leaving the un will have no consequences.

Obama never tried to win...all the while diminishing military funds and forcing the troops to fight using stupid rules of engagement...

REALLY? Just two headlines from today's Spiegel, sort of the German version of Time maagzine:

    http://www.spiegel.de/international...ernational-front-against-trump-a-1130905.html

    http://www.spiegel.de/international/world/trump-inauguration-signals-new-world-order-a-1130916.html

Germany doesn't feel that Trump is an ally. The same probably goes for Japan, after the pullout from the TPP. Anyone in these countries would be crazy to invest in the US now, especially considering Trump's unpredictability.

At the end, the US will stand alone (maybe with Israel, because they have no other choice). How's that gonna work out?

I'm guessing those would be the same nations that Obama refused to stand with in Paris after the Charlie Hebdo attack.

As for Trump, it's great to have a president who shares our own values instead of nihilist who thinks so little of them he pledged to fundamentally transform the United States.

That's because you hear what you want to hear. If you stepped outside the LW echo chamber you would discover that the leaders of two of our closest allies - the UK and Israel - have been singing a different tune.

Boo-hoo. Germany has been a lousy ally. Last I checked they weren't pulling their own weight in NATO.

When did we go into Iraq by ourselves? We had international and regional support in both Gulf Wars as well as the support of many of the locals in the second one.

So, it's not Germany. Who is then our ally that Trump didn't alienate? Name just one (besides Israel)!!
