Billy Graham taught hatred (gays, non-believers), so I assume he's in "hell"?

The definition of being a "Christian" is whatever each person says that means since no religious tenant is enforced as a belief anymore and has not been for a long time.

I'm not a nice person. Does that mean I'm immoral? Do I have a moral duty to be "nice?" Am I worse than Hitler if I'm not? :confusion:

All my posts would, ideally, be prefaced with: "Assuming that the Bible is true......."

You're definitely trying to on this thread, trying to kill the zombie Jesus as you put it. So, do you think it's working? Think you'll ever kill the zombie Jesus in your head?

AT LEAST we can agree that at least from TODAY ON we don't need the Bible/10-Commandments.

It's almost like you are pure evil, since you are deliberately trying to excuse approval of slavery, yes, SLAVERY. Forum member Questerr does that, as well (he's entitled to his opinion, though, of course.) No, if the zombie/hippie/socialist in question was really "divine" and loving he of course would have said "write this down - work to end slavery w/in the next 25 years." I would have said that - because I'm more ethical, kind, and loving than the zombie from Nazareth was.

God/Jesus (Christians often believe, and the Bible states) didn't just have vile WORDS, like you claim, but also (allegedly) vile actions: set up the vile "all non-believers roast in the lake of fire" barbarity in the first place, and in 2000 years haven't said they'll change it. Savagery. Barbarity. The opposite of "love".
Gosh, it's almost like God/Jesus isn't actually real.

Yes, that's because Jesus was a communist: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Christian_communism

    I don't like communism.

Dr. MLK Jr. would have said "Let's white-out the parts in this book that say to kill innocent people (gays, and the first-born sons of Egypt, etc.)", if he was as ethical as Modern Secular Humanists.

Yes, I understand. But that raises a complex ontological question of existence, doesn't it? Here's an analogy:

One time, a long time ago, someone with the government told me "you can't do that" about something I had done. My exact response:

"That raises a serious ontological question of existence in you stating I can not do what I have already done. Obviously I can because I did." (He had to think that for a few moments. LOL. Candidly, it was my way of telling him to f.ck off and get out of my face in a way to mess with his head.

A business owner I know of a large operation really did not like government inspectors. One time the owner and an inspector got into a huge argument over the contents of a large locked metal box in a closet. He wanted to see what was in it. She said that he couldn't. They argued about it, him citing regulations to show he had authority to inspect everything at the facility. She kept insisting he couldn't. It became a power struggle the owner wanted for the struggle - to bicker over a locked box in a huge facility.

Technically, he had to get a formal written order from a superior if challenge, so showed up the next day with it. The owner opened it. It was empty. "I told you that you couldn't see what is in the box." He said "you could have just showed me it's empty." She replied, "its not empty, you just can't see it just like I told you yesterday."

"See what?" Reply, "I don't have to answer that because the government can not require I talk about metaphysical topics."

Classic Zen "Tiger on the wall" metaphysics.

    BRILLIANT!

If Western Christian metaphysics makes you this crazy, not a chance in hell you could handle Eastern metaphysics. Now there's some wild, but quite interesting stuff including how it evolved across history. Reincarnation. Six armed female and male elephant head gods? Yet, like Judaism, it radically shifted - and at the same time as Jesus missing years. That Jesus radically redefined Judaism to most people to something virtually entirely different - after he had done so to Hinduism - taking parts of Judaism to Hinduism - and parts of Hinduism to Judaism - essentially creating 2 new - and superior - religions of peace, love, charity, non-violence and opposition to organized religion - that it is not about serving the organized religion, but rather within a person's own mind.

Some claim that is where Jesus went - noting how Eastern the metaphysical views of Jesus was. There is even an ancient Hindu monastery that claims one of their ancient books records Jesus visiting while passing thru.

Christianity as Jesus told it was RADICALLY different from any religion it predated. VERY radically. It replaced religion from being outward specific acts towards specific gods, to within a person's mind. Hinduism and other major religions also made that shift. Other religions, like Islam, are still mostly what a person physically does submissively. The importance of ritualism has increasingly diminished in much of Christendom, though a few remain particularly within the Catholic church, though that also is fading.

So you're saying that I should not base my overall belief system, my entire future (in "this life and the next life"), on one wacky insane book?

I guess you aren't old enough to know yet, but science often changes its mind about what the "truth" is. The discovery that the universe is expanding at an accelerating pace won a Nobel prize, but now has come under suspicion as the result of new research. In the 1970s, the earth was facing a new ice age that never came to pass. Medical science seems to change its mind weekly about what's good for you and what's bad for you. Forgive me if I have become as skeptical about science and the "truth" as you are about religion and the truth.

I thought Christians voted Republican because Jesus said His Kingdom won't come and be established on Earth until every elected Office in America is held by Good, Bible Thumping Republicans.

I know nothing about him, nor am I interested in anything he had to say; he was just another public speaker as far as I'm concerned. If something he said had a positive effect for your daughter then I'm pleased for her.
