Black Americans shot dead by police are twice as likely to be unarmed as whites

What a ridiculous argument racists have. It essentially is we can't talk about police misconduct until criminals stop killing other criminals. Most of the black on black violence is gang violence. What in the hell does that have to do with holding cops accountable when they murder innocent people because they were playing music to loud, or because they reached for their license during a traffic stop, or when they shoot a 12 year old in two seconds for playing around with a bb gun?

Basically put Sharpton and Jackson are in it for the money. The people that follow them are just like the poor fools that give all their money to televangelists.

 

While we would like to think that things were less critical in such an event, that would be wrong. If you consider the reaction time- the time required to recognize the need to fire and take the action, it represents a delay of usually about 1/4 of a second even if fully aware and alert. That is a disadvantage time, which applies only to the defensive act. The person who makes the aggressive act has that window in his favor. For example, a person with a knife can close a 5 ft gap to a cop with a gun within that time, be on him before he can react and fire. Life or death decisions in such circumstances are critical and split-second, there is not time to re-think. Thus- it pays to do exactly what is ordered, and it pays to highly train officers to prepare them as well as possible. Still, mistakes will be made under those circumstances.

Does "unarmed" mean not a threat? Can an unarmed person not do damage to a police officer? Can an unarmed person not retrieve a cops gun after beating him up?

Also, is this an "after the fact" moment when the cops think the suspect has a weapon to find later the criminal only had a phone or toy gun?
