Heavy metal pioneers Black Sabbath have stormed to the top of the album charts in several countries with their new album 13. The album - which was recorded in Malibu and Warwickshire - has reached No1 in countries such as the US, Canada, Germany, New Zealand and Sabbath's native UK. In the UK it is the Brummies' first No1 album in 43 years, since Paranoid in 1970 when Ted Heath was Prime Minister and Jimi Hendrix was still alive. This is a record for the longest time between No1 albums for an artist in the UK. The band has now beaten Rod Stewart’s short-held record after the 68-year-old singer went to number one in May with album Time 37 years after his last studio success. Speaking of knocking Stewart off the record, Osbourne, 64, said it was a reflection of the ageing rock stars knowing their “craft” in contrast to today’s stars. “It's great,” he said. “But Rod's the same as us, we've got something other people haven't got. “It's all manufactured b------- these days. But the likes of Rod, and Elton John and us have got something different. We know our craft." Black Sabbath - vocalist and harmonica player Ozzy Osbourne, guitarist Tony Iommi and bassist Geezer Butler - are now planning a UK tour, playing London’s O2 Arena in December, followed by shows in Belfast, Sheffield, Glasgow and Manchester. The band also revealed that they will probably make another album. Hell's house band: Black Sabbath have returned to their roots Speaking as the chart was announced on Sunday night, Osbourne said: “I don't know either way. We're still reveling in coming back with this. “There probably will be another album, but I don't want to promise anything to anyone. It took us long enough to do this, and we can't wait another 43 years to have another No 1. “If it comes to pass we don't make another record, then I can rest easily knowing we finished things properly with 13.” Sabbath have also said that original drummer Bill Ward is also welcome back into the band should he ever wish to rejoin them. Bill refused to take part in the new album over contract issues. Rage Against The Machine drummer Brad Wilk played drums on 13. http://www.telegraph.co.uk/culture/...bbath-score-first-number-one-in-43-years.html

There is, to me, nothing more stupid about the Baby Boomers than this continued devotion they all have to their idiot "music". Fer Crissake, it's like, dressing in flapper dresses and Zoot Suits while still dancing to the Charleston and Black Bottom in the 60's. And the worst bull(*)(*)(*)(*) hypocrisy is that they're all still acting like they're "sticking it to the man" while sending their own children off to die so they can run their Hummers. (*)(*)(*)(*)ing disgusting jerks. The Greatest Generation, it seems, was followed by the most pathetic
Got my copy last week. Been listening to Sabbath since I was old enough to care about music sometime in the mid 70's. Fantastic album. Well worth the wait, and can't wait for more. One of my favs so far on this album , Age of Reason.
I've seen them in concert several times over the years. They certainly know their craft. In concert I think they are one of the loudest bands ever. They were the pioneers of Christian Heavy Metal. And even though I'm not Christian they are still my all-time favorite band.
Sabbath was my favorite band growing up, but what I've heard of this album is, I'm sad to say, pretty weak. The riffs and general sound are recycled from the Heaven and Hell era, the lyrics are without any deep meaning, and sadly, Ozzy did not go back to singing the way he used to (in the lower pitch he used on the early albums). This album ain't no Sabbotage or Sabbath Bloody Sabbath. More like a Technical Ecstasy or Never say Die (i.e. the decline era of the original Sabbath).
Hold the presses... pioneers of Christian Metal? In what universe? Most Christians I have ever have known seem to think Black Sabbath are the anti-Christ. Sabbath songs are a reflection of the conflict of humanity best exemplified by the song Heaven and Hell (Ronnie James Dio). I mean Ozzy is known as the Prince of Darkness... the title does not sound very Christian to me.
Look up the lyrics of their early albums. They were the pioneers of Christian metal. Have you ever even been to a Black Sabbath concert? If so then notice that Ozzy repeatedly screams "God bless you all" into the mic several times at every concert.
I think it takes more than lyrics and screaming God bless you all to be a Christian. Is Lil Wayne a Christian because he wears a crucifix and thanks God during award shows... all the while sipping his narcotic laced "purple drink"? Slayer has lyrics about God, are they Christian? Black Sabbath What is this that stands before me? Figure in black which points at me Turn around quick and start to run Find out I'm the chosen one Oh Noooooooooooo Big black shape with eyes of fire Telling people their desire Satan sitting there, he's smiling Watch as those flames get higher and higher Oh no no, please God help me, Is it the end, my friend? Satan's coming 'round the bend People running, cause they're scared People that are going, beware Noo, Nooo, please no http://www.lyricsbox.com/black-sabbath-lyrics-black-sabbath-pbm5lj3.html Please tell me where you see this as an affirmation of Jesus. Do you have any proof, an interview where any of the original members say that they are Christian and that their music is about Christianity?
I am not familiar with who Lil Wayne is. So I don't know if whether he is Christian metal musician or not. Frankly I've never heard of him so I can't really speak to that. Why does he call himself "Lil". That is a feminine name. Is he some gender bender freak like Marilyn Manson or something?
Really that is all you saw out of my post and my questions? Sigh. Again I ask for proof that Black Sabbath is a Christian band... proof like the members of the band stating that they are Christian and that Black Sabbath is about praising Christianity.
While I think it is a bit much to call them a "Christian rock" band, the notion that they are Satanic or whatever is just BS trumped up by evangelicals with nothing better to do than stir up hatred. How about these Sabbath lyrics? After Forever Have you ever thought about your soul - can it be saved? Or perhaps you think that when you're dead you just stay in your grave Is God just a thought within your head or is He a part of you? Is Christ just a name that you read in a book when you were in school? When you think about death do you lose your breath Or do you keep your cool? Would you like to see the Pope on the end of a rope Do you think he's a fool? Well I have seen the truth, yes I've seen the light And I've changed my ways And I'll be prepared when you're lonely and scared At the end of our days Could it be you're afraid of what your friends might say If they knew you believe in God above? They should realize before they criticize That God is the only way to love Is your mind so small that you have to fall In with the pack wherever they run Will you still sneer when death is near And say they may as well worship the sun? I think it was true it was people like you that crucified Christ I think it is sad the opinion you had was the only one voiced Will you be so sure when your day is near, say you don't believe? You had the chance but you turned it down, now you can't retrieve Perhaps you'll think before you say that God is dead and gone Open your eyes, just realize that he's the one The only one who can save you now from all this sin and hate Or will you still jeer at all you hear? Yes! I think it's too late.
Seems kinda like Christian metal to me.
I agree. I do not think Sabbath is satanic at all. As for the lyrics... they are of the age old battle of good vs evil... God vs Satan... light vs darkness... these are themes used by many different Metal bands. I have seen a number of interviews with Ozzy and Tony Iommi where they speak of their influences and about their songs and music, and never in any of those interviews have I seen them say that they are Christians, or that they write Christians music, or that they are a Christian band. Heck I use to religiously (pun intended) watch Meet the Osbournes and never did I see them go to Church to attend mass. I tell you what, if Ozzy, Tony Iommi and Geezer Butler are Christians, then I may have to change my views on Christianity.
I am not asking for your opinion on what seems kinda like Christian Metal to you, I am asking you to show me proof that it is Christian Metal. Link me a quote from a band member stating that they are Christian.
The lyrics of Black Sabbath's songs speak for them self. Many of the songs clearly have Christian themes. There is no doubt about that. I didn't really give a (*)(*)(*)(*) about their religion. I used to have all of their albums. All I cared about was the excellent musicianship. That's why I stole so many their albums from Woollworths when I was a young tweenager.
The songs do have Christian as well as Satanist themes.... so what? How does that make them a Christian band? Here are some excerpts from a Guitar World interview circa 1997; ------------------------------------------------------------------ http://www.strelna.ru/en/comments/music/10654.htm http://www.amazon.com/dp/B005L9ZIFC Don't sound very Christian to me. But believe as you like... as will I.
Good for them. The creators of the heavy metal genre deserve to end their careers on top. Haven't heard it all yet, but it sounds like the best thing they've done in a very long time. I hope Ozzy can keep his idiot wife from tarnishing his legacy with all the variety hour shows and reality television that she wants to be involved with.
I don't hear Heaven and Hell at all. This album, or at least part of it, sounds like an actual old school Ozzy era Sabbath album, to me. Check this one out.
Ok, I picked up the album, and I must say I am blown away by this thing. I would have never expected that after 35 years apart, Ozzy, Iommi, and Butler would have been able to produce something of this quality. This is better than the last 2 albums they did with Ozzy in the late 70's. I've got 2 songs left, but unless those two are complete losers, I will give this a high recommendation to anyone who liked the early to mid 70's era Sabbath. Some of the songs sound like they could have actually been released during that era (End of the Beginning a clear standout, Pariah, and others), while other ones have a more modern aggressive edge to them, but never losing the Sabbath sound (Methademic, God is Dead?). Last song, "Zeitgeist" was pretty weak. It's like they tried to do "Planet Caravan" again, but it didn't work out as well. This would have been a better song to have at the middle of the album. Wish they would have ended it on a better song. Oh well, still a solid album.
I love this album. I've been listening to it nonstop all weekend. Make sure to avoid the "Deluxe version" sold on Amazon, as it only has 3 bonus tracks. Go to Best Buy for their version, as it has all 3 of those bonus tracks plus another one. Naivete in Black sounds like something from the Dehumanizer album and doesn't fit too well with the rest, but it's still a track worth having. Along with the "End of the Beginning" song, which is almost like an homage to the title track off their debut album, here is the oldest school sounding track on the whole album, complete with Ozzy's harmonica playing and everything. This song could have been on Vol 4, it's that classic sounding.
