He forgot artificial selection as well! Another technique thanks to farmers which made practically every vegetable he enjoys edible

I think he misunderstands the complexity of modern farming. But I don't think he at all claims that farmers are unintelligent or wanted to offend anyone. He needs to be a lot more careful what he says. Only Trump can get away with making idiotic insulting claims.

All it takes is a bad tool offset and you're back in oops land.

If you think that modern manufacturing equipment is fool proof, boy have I got the fanuc for you.

    Well, soybeans - a lot.
But actually I thought it fun to compare a pompous ass that makes believe he is rich and smart and a real pompous ass that is rich and smart.

Yeah, sure. That's why people buy them. They like that they make more mistakes.

Sadly, There aren't many machine shops left in the USA. Of the larger job shops and manufactures that do still exist, most rely on CNC milling (computer skills).

I don't know how much foundry work has changed but I'm certain that with automation, a good amount of skill is also required in casting metals in order to be as efficient and competitive as possible. I think 3D printing will be used more and more for producing parts that used to be cast. A good amount of computer technology is required. Bloomberg cannot keeping up with manufacturing advancements or is ignorant of new technology.

Plant science and genetics yes. Monsanto has funded much of the research. As far as subsidies, ADM and Conagra. Monsanto merged with Pharmacia before it spun off bulk chemicals to Solutia about 15 years ago.

How did we get from no mistakes to more mistakes?

    Bad argumentation perhaps?

You're the one trying to live in the past.
    Why did we automate them?

Yeah. I'm not living in the past, or even trying to. I'm here in the present making good money maintaining and repairing the equipment you've apparently never heard an oops around. I suspect that's because you've never been actually near enough to one to actually hear it.

You have a false impression of automation. Mistakes happen, even in automated equipment. That's not a call to do away with it. That's a argument that you don't know what you're talking about.

The parts that come out of automated mills are not all identical. They need to be inspected. The mills themselves need to be constantly tweeked to bring them back into tolerance. It takes a skilled worker to run one, despite your impression that not every tool pass has to be manually input.

The benefit to the manufacturer is that one machinist can operate more than one mill at the same time. The benefit to the machinist is that his labor requires a greater degree of skill which earns a higher salary.

Even then, if your making custom short run parts, there's no beating a manual mill and a skilled blueprint reader. It's no contest. The parts will be made and shipped long before Vericut even verifies the tool paths on the CNC.

The reason Bloomberg isn't in the democrat debates is because that also requires no brains. He may be on to something there.
