The trouble with the economies of the first world is that they are based on the consumer buying more and more largely useless crap to keep all of the industries and shops employing people from going under.
The earth's resources and the environment can't take the endless ravaging that such mass consumerism entails, so what do you do to make all those people self-sufficient without perpetuating a destructive economic model?
I think that with automation and AI, we will be able to free up billions of people from many types of jobs and the best way to develop the economy is to let the robots do the work and give people a basic income and the chance to train to become whatever they like for free.
There is so much to learn and do that is of actual value rather than chase a buck to make ends meet that almost everyone could find their passion and devote themselves to it and contribute to helping the world.
It's simply the evolution of civilization.

Lol...From where I sit, it's the right-wingers who love to play silly little word games with their hysterical commie and socialist epithets. They're so 1950s.

The issue with that simply put is that automotion isn't at that level. We still have man-operated cranes and the robots themselves are still operated by man mostly. AI isn't at the level where they can replace us, and thus we should be still looking to maximize our human potential.

This was a Bloomberg spokesman on CNN absolutely scorching Sanders and the CNN woman never cut him off like they did with people who said something negative about Clinton. Meanwhile, in the world of the leftists who have a raging dumpster fire of a primary going on, it's all my fault.

A democrat blasts another democrat on CNN, it's on video, but here you are blaming me. What the matter, did the pee tape grow old?

The people that create it are compensated, if it's not to their satisfaction then they should seek a better paying job, start their own business or simply give up like many other leftist and join the Leftist organization welfare retire union!

What word games? The guy calls himself a socialist, the media calls him a socialist and his democrat opponents call him a socialist. Meanwhile, you guys continue to toss out words like Nazi, White nationalist, white supremacist, racist, bigot, homophobe, Islamophobe, transaphobe, hater, dictator, and more. Why do you guys ALWAYS accuse others of what you do yourselves?

I call Bernie what Bernie calls Bernie. Socialist. OK I do add crazy, but come on...look at that hair...

I call Bloomberg Bloomer cause I’m lazy and that’s a long name.

I call Hilary a hag cause she is

I think that’s it for my name calling of specific people..except for salami...That dead price of crap does not deserve his name to be spelt correctly.

Now for liberals I alternate between liberals and lefties. I’m fine with either as they both do a good job describing.

Oh and i refuse to capitalize antifa no matter how many times my iPhone tries to correct it. They don’t deserve that name to be capitalized. Sucker punching cowards the lot.

Bernie calls himself a democratic socialist. This may help you to understand the difference.

(poor Trish, she sure ends up looking dumb....)

All characteristics of the rabid Right Wing.

The Left have - at the extreme - descended to totalitarian communism, but that no longer exists; and sometimes identity politics, because the Left has failed in its mission to eliminate poverty and so is diverted into useless identity poltics; and sometimes confusion around immigration, since the Left has abandoned its original belief in an international rules-based system, and is faced with the ridiculous proposition of open borders in a attempt to show concern for human rights...

But at least Bernie himself knows you need border controls in this broken world ravaged by war, poverty, unemployment and criminality.

But it's obvious which side on the political spectrum is the uglier.....

I would characterize Venezuela as totalitarian communism, it is frankly terrifying that your side sees it as a model for the United States.

Chavez was a democratically elected socialist (in 1998 with 56% of the votes); and before the price of oil collapsed, he was able to lift the poor out of poverty via government spending on social programs. But US sanctions and loss of export income destroyed the economy.

Actually the Right like to use Venezuela as an example of government spending on social programs that causes inflation, without acknowledging the fact of the dependency of Venezuela on oil, and the effect of collapse in the oil price.

No-one sees that as a model for the US, care to put a date on the Sanders quote?
As I said, Chavez did improve the economy for a number of years after his election in 1998.

And the way to change that is to engender universal knowledge and understanding of different systems of politics, economics and religion.

I doubt it would help. The problem is that we make a drama out of it and people need to play their part in order to get elected. It is mostly about entertainment. Notice that the boring people don't win. I don't think there is a solution. Without the drama there is no communication in politics.

We make a drama of politics because we don't understand what we are dealing with - ultimately, the "human condition" (google it, you will find lots of interesting stuff).

We don't need boring......I suppose you mean the 'middle ground', and the status quo?

Let's see if Bernie can beat boring Biden on Saturday.

I didn't mean status quo. I meant boring. I said what I meant.

No. Socialism destroys the Middle Class as does Crony Capitalism. We need to return to Free Market Capitalism. For instance, I have run a number of Small Businesses ($26.5 Million or less) that does work for the Federal Government. Some of the biggest projects have excluded Small Businesses due to "Classified" needs that only the big primes (Accenture, Bechtel, Jacobs, etc.) can get, even though they cannot perform some of the specialized work required. They have made it cost $150K to vet each new person to work on the project, thereby pricing out the Small Business on that type of lucrative work. This is just one example of the Big Business Crony Capitalist setting up a system with the Government to stop Small Businesses for excelling. Another is what it took to get any sort of loan during the Obama Administration for a Small Business. Trump has removed some of those draconian banking regulations aimed at stopping Small Businesses from competing. We are doing far better right now under Trump than we ever did under Obama. This momentum of removing obstacles which Trump is doing with the regulation killing efforts of his Administration need to keep coming. Those regulations are created by Establishment Democrats and Republicans in conjunction with Big Business to consolidate money and power. Trump is doing us right and chipping away. The LAST thing we need is some crackpot Socialist like Bernie Sanders pushing more Big Government, more regulations, more obstacles and destroying Small Businesses all together.

Except that we don't, and Sanders didn't write that, and:

"Either way, what makes Sanders unusual among American radicals – from Noam Chomsky and The Nation magazine to almost every left-wing intellectual and journal of thought – is that he has never uttered a kind word for the cargo cult of Hugo Chavez. The more strange then, that he has been accused, convicted, and tarred-and-feathered on precisely that charge."

Trouble is big corporations are required in our highly technological world, from producing smart phones to vehicles.

So a financial transaction tax on parasitic 'high speed traders' might be just the ticket, to enable provision of debt free tertiary education.
