(CNN)Fires are raging at a record rate in Brazil's Amazon rainforest, and scientists warn that it could strike a devastating blow to the fight against climate change. The fires are burning at the highest rate since the country's space research center, the National Institute for Space Research (known by the abbreviation INPE), began tracking them in 2013, the center said Tuesday. There have been 72,843 fires in Brazil this year, with more than half in the Amazon region, INPE said. That's more than an 80% increase compared with the same period last year. The Amazon is often referred to as the planet's lungs, producing 20% of the oxygen in the Earth's atmosphere -------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- The last line, "the Amazon is often referred to as the planet's lungs, producing 20% of the oxygen in the Earth's atmosphere". We shouldn't worry about World War 3 and a nuclear holocaust, but we should be worried about climate change and global warming before it's too late, if it isn't already.
But the left is cheering as Brazil slashes and burns to start growing soy beans for China and remember both these countries signed the Paris accord which shows you what that piece of paper is worth.
I'm kinda surprised this isn't being covered that much in the current events section. I mean, this is pretty damn important and from more than one perspective.
Fake news, phony crisis: Celebrities spread false photos of burning Amazon rain-forest...in a bid to create a crisis. The pipeline to fake news has already begun producing. Wildfires are a common thing in highly forested and big brush-land areas of the world during drought. Just ask California, Spain, or Australia.
