    Interesting point and logical... however, to take that theory a step further, why not wait and let Kim cancel the summit or let him no-show.... At that point, Trump can do no wrong... he set up a meeting, shows up, and the other guy bails... Nothing is out of bounds at that point... For now, it looks like Trump blinked, for vague and unverifiable reasons, which looks bad...

    And news flash, if NK wants to get more American hostages, it wouldn't be a huge effort...

    What a verbose way to NOT deny that Trump got American hostages home, Kim destroyed his nuclear test sites, Kim and South Korea prez spoke directly for the first time and Kim got zilch out of it, besides a valuable lesson that playing games with Trump is a very bad idea.

    Round 2 is starting as we speak and Trump has earned a major advantage.

    The obvious answer is because he's reminding NK that they have more to lose than the US and SK has, which is all in the letter, if you read it.

    He's also reminding them that the past tricks they've used on other Presidents isn't going to work with him.

    I never understood what NK's angle was in this. The Kim regime's sole objective is to survive, which they do by painting the outside world as evil invaders only they, the Kims, can keep the people safe from. What were they ever going to get out of meeting Mr Trump, other than moving towards opening up and being exposed to their people as frauds?

    Exactly........the principles never meet until the details are in agreement. This entire "event" was a show......the letter clearly indicates that what really mattered was the dialogue, "the show". Amazing, the Trump Reality Show continues dripping with drama.

    Wow, I've heard of reading between the lines, but that's wishful thinking... NK knows the US could blow them up 45 days from Sunday....

    At the end of the day, Trump Cancels Summit... that's the only thing that's going to be remembered here... Not Trump Reminds NK They Have Almost Zero Negotiating Position.... Or Trump Wisely Outwaits North Korea...

    Trump calls off Singapore summit with Kim Jong-un

    Donald Trump once again proved that he is a president like none of his predecessors, writing a letter to Kim Jong-un this morning cancelling their planned upcoming June 12th summit. In it he blames “the tremendous anger and open hostility displayed in your most recent statement” for the cancellation, which he describes as “for the good of both parties, but to the detriment of the world.”

    Any notion of rapprochement between the U.S. and North Korea must begin and end with denuclearization. Otherwise, what's the point in talking?

    North Korea has long cited Libya's case as the reason it needs nuclear weapons. Less than a decade after Moammar Gadhafi agreed to abandon its nuclear aspirations in a deal with the United States, Obama and Hillary ousted him from power and then chortled with glee when he was killed by NATO-backed forces and sodomized with a knife.

    The entire purpose of the administration's plans for a quick summit with Kim and Trump while issuing threats was to undermine rapprochement between Kim and Moon. The US has stabbed Moon in the back with this planned false start for a summit. The correct action should have been to let North and South Korea develop peace and reduce tensions on the peninsula and only to pursue denuclearization later. Unfortunately, the US bullied its way into the situation to exert its hegemony.

    No, it's the only thing that will be remembered by people who are blinded by their emotional investment in hating Trump.

    If NK wants sanctions lifted and to have lives like in SK, then THEY are the ones who need to show they want it.

    I'm still thinking the negotiations just started early and are still going on, but I could be wrong.
    If I'm wrong I would expect Trump's backing out will give China the excuse to resupply NK.

    Its a shame, the meeting of these 2 men couldn't have produced anything but good. Hopefully we'll see a meeting at some other point.
