Yes, it was about hating Obama, and black people in general.

The Tea Party, like the Trump crowd, was almost 100% white, and nearly all Republican, or “independents” who voted Republican. I went to a couple of tea party events locally, just to see what they looked like beyond what the TV pundits were saying.

A burning cross would not have been out of place at either one of them, nor would the crowed have minded.

The tea party movement was always about hating the fact that a black man was in the White House. It also showed up in the empirical research. Attitudes about race (or specifically about black people and Barack Obama) was the one constant thread that ran through all the polling data.

They just needed a few code words, and a fake meme to hide their racism behind. Taxed Enough Already was a smokescreen. Not one of these people gave a damn about the size of the deficit.

Clinton ran surpluses and the talk radio right still hated him for it.

Salons analyses of should I say spin of the Rush comment is the real sham here.

“Nobody is a fiscal conservative anymore,” Limbaugh shot back. “All this talk about concern for the deficit and the budget has been bogus for as long as it’s been around.”
Salon claims: "That’s quite the statement from Limbaugh, who spent the entirety of the Obama years attacking the president over rising deficits."

What Rush is doing here is criticizing both parties and the ruling elites. This is a consistent theme of his so there is nothing here that makes this "quite the statement". It's a nothing burger.

Because the tea party disappeared the moment the GOP took control. The GOP and tea party only seems to give a damn about the deficit when a Democrat is in power. The concerns for the deficit dissipated like a fart in the wind the moment the GOP took control.

it is not that less is said about this issue
It is just remarkable that NOTHING is said about the deficit
And really... nothing is said about so many of the issues that have traditionally bothered the GOP for decades.

Presidential Character used to be an issue... silence
Maintaining strong alliances used to be an issue
Not talking with dictators used to be an issue
Standing up to the Russians used to be an issue

It does blow me away. When I first saw the TEA Party I was stoked, finally a group that wants to reduce runaway spending, which is the root of all Government evil. When I went to some early rallies, there were Democrats, Independents, Libertarians, Republicans, etc... then the smear campaign began with plants in our crowds that had phony signs, MSM attacks of "racist", and the same in social media. The final nail when Establishment Republicans went along with the huge spend by Ryan, it was done. Where are the people that want to preserve the American Dream for our kids and grandchildren? What a missed opportunity. The media message along with D.C. Establishment is very powerful. They can manipulate destroy most groups. I hope a new bi-partisan/ non-partisan group emerges that again attacks the crony spending for the sake of power of Washington D.C.

“Nobody is a fiscal conservative anymore,...”
"...has been bogus for as long as it’s been around.”

So...is it "anymore" or (always) "been bogus"?

Analyzing this exchange could be challenging.

If he lied to his voters like MCain did, Ryan did, Obama did......Trump would be loved in DC and by the liberal media. Take a clue...he isn't loved by DC or the liberal media because he's doing all he can to fulfill his campaign promises. The establishment believes a Republican honoring campaign promises is a dangerous thing to their livelihood and that is how they treat Trump. A threat to them.

Hit the nail squarely on the head. All the TPers are now die hard Trumpers, so deficits no longer matter. Similarly all the 'moral majority' types have thrown in with a poster child for immorality and the National Security hawks are on board with a draft dodger whose campaign sought help from the Russians & Wikileaks and who fawns over Putin.

I guess the writing was on the wall when the same people who hounded Clinton about avoiding a war he disagreed with voted for two guys who dodged a war they supported.

It was, is and sadly will probably continue to be about hating Democrats. Everything else is dispensable.

    America spends too much

Cut spending instead of raising taxes

As Rush Limbaugh, Fox Noise and a host of trashy blogs have long since proved, you can lie to the lowbrow Archie Bunker right wing all day long, as long as you tell them what they want to hear.

Limbaugh has been shilling for Wall Street and big oil for thirty years.
