BREAKING: President Trump says a U.S. warship destroyed an Iranian drone in the Strait of Hormuz - AP Link to follow. UPDATED: https://www.wsj.com/articles/iran-seizes-foreign-tanker-it-accuses-of-smuggling-fuel-11563449352 The Iranians have seized a tanker from the UAE and the US has dispatched marines and helicopters to the area. https://www.bbc.com/news/world-middle-east-49029053
I am waiting for the marines to go in and take control of that tanker and get it back to the UAE. That is worth military action, IMO.
Do you mean that in this instance, or in all instances? Answer first and then I'll post my follow up question
That might be why the Iranian drone got shot down. The warship it approached is an amphibious assault ship that transports Marines...
One thing's for certain - the Iranians were stupid to fly a drone near an LHD. Those ships are loaded with AA systems.
Well, this is interesting: Breaking: Trump Says USS Boxer Destroyed Iranian Drone After Ignoring Stand Down https://bongino.com/breaking-uss-boxer-destroys-iranian-drone-after-it-ignored-stand-down-orders/
Anyone live along the I-215 and or I-210 between MCAS Miramar and the naval station at Port Hueneme ? Notice those Marine V-22 Ospreys that are flying back and forth from Marimar and Port Hueneme for the past few days ? SOP when U.S. Marines from Camp Pendleton and Marimar are about to be deployed into a combat zone.
Looks like it serves in the anti piracy role. Boxer is designated as the flagship of Combined Task Force 151, the international anti-piracy task force pursuing pirates off the coast of Somalia.[10] On 10 April 2009, Boxer was en route to assist USS Bainbridge and USS Halyburtonin negotiating the release of Richard Phillips, captain of U.S. flagged container shipMV Maersk Alabama, who was held hostage by Somali pirates 300 miles off the Horn of Africa.[11] On 12 April 2009, Captain Phillips was freed during a US Navy assault in which three of the Somali pirates were killed, and one was captured.[12] Captain Phillips was transported to Boxer for medical examination and rest.[13] Around 1 May 2009, Boxer assisted some 200 members of the German special operations unit GSG-9 in getting close to the hijacked German container ship MV Hansa Stavanger. During the last phase of the operation, James L. Jones, the U.S. National Security Advisor, withheld final approval for the operation out of concern for the safety of the 25 sailors on board the vessel. This led to the decision by the German department of defense and the German department of the interior to abort the planned attack on the freighter for the time being and the GSG-9 unit, which is under the command of the German secretary of the interior, returned to their base of operations at the airport of Mombasa, Kenya. It was reported that the German department of defense influence and contacts to James Jones led to the U.S. decision to withdraw from the scene.[14] https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/USS_Boxer_(LHD-4)
