Oops! Seems like trouble a-foot as rebel MEP's from the US Brexit Party turned their backs on the EU Parliament when they played their national anthem 'Ode to Joy'. In the meantime they were met by opposition protests from Liberal Democrats, who arrived sporting yellow "Bollocks to Brexit" tees. Rebel MEPs from the UK Brexit Party turned their backs on the European Parliament as the bloc's anthem, Ode to Joy, played at the institution’s opening ceremony at Tuesday morning’s session."I will give them this warning – if they don’t deliver Brexit on [October 31] they’re toast and we’ll see a turquoise takeover,” Mr Farage told reporters on Tuesday after the protests. https://sputniknews.com/europe/2019...ks-on-eu-anthem-at-1st-parliamentary-session/
The British want to leave the EU, and Germany wants to punish them so as to deter other nations. But then again that's Germany: Everything is either black or white and without any accommodation or flexibility. 'Preussens Gloria'
The majority of the British never voted to leave the EU. 37% of the electorate did which amounted to 52% of those who voted and I hear, presumably due to opinion polls that most people no longer want Brexit. Brexit is destroying social cohesion in the UK. It is making the break up of the UK look extremely likely so really to just say 'the British want to leave the EU' is ignoring possibly the majority of the British and certainly the majority of Scot's and NI. As for them turning their backs on the Anthem - childish prank illustrating they want an unfriendly relationship. Just ego, nothing more.
The British people voted to leave the EU, why can't Germany and the rest of the Nordic bunch accept it, and accommodate them rather than destroying Britain and themselves in the end. But then again isn't that always the way?
I love the Prussian/German marches, they are so upbeat and raring to go - a true reflection of the German culture. 'Go out and conquer, we're the best'. I guess it's how the Roman armies felt. I also love the Soviet march 'The Sacred War' since it reflects this big godless Soviet Union marching to fight and die to protect their land - almost like a funeral march. And what is our reflection? Sousa's marches of course - loud, brash and brassy.
I wouldn't mock the British who turned their backs. It's that arrogance that has made Germany hated in the EU. The British won the vote to leave, and their animosity grows with every move Berlin makes against them. It doesn't matter how much money Soros and others spend to convince them otherwise. But it's not just the British people you're fighting. You're also fighting Canada, Australia, US, and New Zealand because when it comes to policy, they are one and the same. This is why they are known as the five eyes. They will support one another no matter how criminal something is - as we have seen in Ukraine and the Middle East. And who is Germany's support? The Eastern and Southern Europeans not only hate Germany's tyranny and imposition of a liberal, or rather pagan world order and their lack of respect towards their cultural and religious values - but also for the slavery imposed on them through austerity as well as the destruction of their sovereignty. The world, contrary to the liberal new world order with their skewed ideology, doesn't consist only of trade and economics. There are other factors as well, such as heritage, faith, etc. What the Brits did during the EU anthem should have been a wake up call for Germany, but it hasn't been - unfortunately.
it was 51% to 49%, slim margin I admit, but you have to know that it was a majority of British who voted in that referendum to leave the EU. I guess you need your brain medicine or something.
Besides, it's bad taste for the EU to even have an anthem little lone jack/steal one of Beethoven's for it.
This is the head of the Brexit Party, MEP Nigel Farage, this morning defending the decision to do this.
No it wasn't a majority of British. It was only 37% of the British. What it was was a majority of those who voted. The Problem lies with Cameron doing it to try and subdue to Tory right and them winning. They copied a lot of things that worked in the Scottish Indy though their motivation was different. A very left wing group Radical Independence went out to the schemes where people had stopped voting for years because they believed whatever they voted for would make no difference. They told them their ideas and that if they voted this time and were successful it really would make a difference and they did. The Tory Right or Farage did the same to the same people in England and got the same result except them saying that it would make a good difference was a lie.
An anthem and a flag is needed for a country, which is the end goal of those who engineered EU in the first place. I have no problem with the EU if it's an economic and military alliance. They all gathered lately to pick the new EU commission, the one institution with true power. Not a single citizen voted for them. By design. I don't agree with unelected people ruling over me. There is stuff I like about the EU and some I don't. It needs serious reformation to my mind. As for the UK leaving, props to them, EU is a mess, although not impossible to fix. Sadly, I don't see any fixes after UK voiced their concerns and desire. The message was not received, something like there is a problem with the UK not the EU. They can always join later if needs be. I am afraid the EU will make the exit as miserable as possible as an example. Another reason to leave, and a idea to consider for those who stay. Don't mind Jean, she will post everything that is good for Russia, like the breakup of the EU. Keep tabs on her.
Yeah, those idiots show up for their paycheck, do nothing, and go home again. Paid vacation while living on the dole. Typical British.
Nobody asked me (a British citizen in the EU) if I'd like the EU to be a country, so why waste money on an anthem?
England gave rise to America, that's why we both are democracies. The EU and the rest of Europe is democracy in name only, but not in practice. These people probably aren't as evolved as this system that lead to America. The EU has a different definition of democracy where in 2019, only MEPs get a vote but are not given a choice in who to vote for (with 1 name on the ballot) and positions of power are appointed and then they can't be kicked out of that position. The EU is doomed to fail unless it evolves into a democracy.
@Jeannette Some Good News. https://news.yahoo.com/johnson-set-crushing-victory-over-205937519.html Johnson Set for Crushing Victory Over Hunt, Poll Suggests Boris Johnson looks set for a landslide victory over rival Jeremy Hunt in the race to become Britain’s next prime minister. According to a YouGov poll published in the Times newspaper, Johnson is backed by 74% of Conservative Party members with Hunt languishing on 26%. The survey also suggests that the vast majority of the 160,000 grassroots party members who will receive their ballot papers this weekend don’t believe Hunt’s claim that he’s prepared to take Britain out of the European Union without a deal. Only 27% think Hunt would do so, compared with 90% for Johnson. . . . Moi No One Seems To Remember July 1 is Canada Day!
The EU is the void of life aside from Brexit Party and Catalonia, that's why Europe looks dull, it is. The EU parliament could do with more livening up. Brussels just looks so dull, and grey, and dead.
If no one takes a stand, if no one is allowed to breathe life into the EU parliament, then, good riddance to the EU parliament. The EU is a non country, and Brussels is no Washington D.C.
