By country? No you have to look at each one, and most western countries intentionally don't like to track racial statistics in crime. The black murder rate in both Canada and the UK is hard to quantify, because looking at data points is "racist". https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Race_and_crime_in_the_United_Kingdom Canada, for example, sees their high incarceration as a problem with racism, instead of a problem with the reality they commit more crime. http://torontoist.com/2016/04/african-canadian-prison-population/ For some reason western civilizations love to hide the racial disparity in crime rates. https://ucr.fbi.gov/crime-in-the-u....f_vicitm_by_race_and_sex_of_offender_2013.xls http://dailycaller.com/2016/07/13/how-the-federal-government-inflates-crime-statistics-for-whites/
In US data, the homicide clearance rate is about 60%, and we don't wait for a conviction to designate obvious homicides as such.
NOPE! England would never be interested in "guns for all" society! They are not crazy! What they are debating is whether there should be more ARMED POLICE. . .not armed civilians!
No, from my observations, in England you are Guilty until proven innocent, there are far fewer Rights belonging to British subjects compared to U.S.A., the idea in England is to restrict any general public access to so called "Offensive Weapons" and any act of personal defense is stongly discouraged and called "Taking the Law into ones own hands", and also discouraged in the strongest possible manner.
Yesterday morning busses were on divert because of a gangland style assassination in Croydon forcing busses out my way. I wondered why these busses were coming my way but I found out today. http://news.met.police.uk/news/fatal-shooting-in-croydon-245461
I think the main difference between the UK and America is that we have a lot more faith in and respect for our police. Hardly surprising when you consider the ''shoot first ask questions later'' attitude of the US police forces. Because of the lack of easily obtained guns in our society the police have never needed to be routinely armed. This may be changing now due to the increased terrorist attacks but I still don't think we will get to the point where every policeman will carry a gun.
Then the current lack of police carrying guns has nothing to do with any change in the availability or scarcity of firearms, since it was that way prior to 1996?
Sorry, but you appear to be misinformed. I remember a training seminar I attended that included a number of British officers, including a couple from London's Metropolitan Police. They told me that prior to the gun bans street thugs in England had pot-metal .25s and .32s. After the bans they had Italian submachineguns and Glocks thanks to the empowered criminal Black Market. Interestingly, the cultural differences became promptly apparent: gang members in the UK still did drivebys, but they shot at each other's legs to cripple each other but not kill. They called them "war wounding" shootings. Ultimately the Met deployed police tactical teams with subguns of their own in the hardest hit neighborhoods to combat the problem, and the cops learned to spot gang members by the rolling limps most had. Again, criminals can get whatever guns they want; right along with the drugs and other illegal items they break the law to acquire. No, that's not correct. Interestingly, if we had properly adhered to the Constitution and not had the government just try to rationalize their way around it we could have had an honest discussion of the issue to create a Constitutional Amendment to make things like nuclear weapons and other WMD the sole purview of governments while leaving small arms alone. Sadly, that was not done. So, now we have a morass of regulations regarding firearms that should never have been allowed to happen. In the end, any small arm is a protected arm, and it is the choice of the citizen what type of weapon best fits his needs. Mine includes semi-automatic carbines and full capacity magazines. Laws which ban classes of guns are unconstitutional and contrary to the intent of our nation's Founders.
Spoken like a true subject. Some people are perfectly happy being ruled and capitulating meekly to governmental authority over their lives. Some aren't. "I'd rather live in a violent tumultuous, but free land, than in a controlled, safe, but oppressed one."
How many disarmed colonial subjects of England were murdered by British adventurism because they couldn't fight back? what happened with the colony that could fight back and did?
well that would be nice-so would lots of things that don't exist such as tasty candy that has no sugar etc but we do know that the schemes the ARC proposes in a faux effort to combat crime is least likely to disarm gan bangers and most likely to disarm good people. Why do gun controllers want to disarm good people with stupid laws that criminals don't obey.
as my late grandfather used to say-the Brits lost back to back the bravest genes in their gene pool. The bravest brits got mowed down charging German Machine Gun positions in WWII and a generation later, killed fighting off the Nazis in WWII.
Sheep love living in a pen. Safe from the wolves and disdainful of the sheep dogs. But while the wolf might kill a few sheep that free range, the farmer can shear, castrate and slaughter every sheep in the pen. Real men choose to be sheep dogs, not live in pens
Well they propagated the sheep mentality among all the lackeys of their subject colonies and then among their own. It can be argued they are reaping the seeds of the crop they planted in engineering the Mideast borders circa WWI and to top the cake, invited the enemy they help create into their bottle. They will get little help from the EU. Funny, I note those countries that without the help of the US would be speaking different languages today enjoy denigrating the US. Their relative safety isn't the product of their gun laws but the umbrella of the US's world security policy. What's that old saying... bite the hand....
mass shootings aren't caused by gangs. Besides, while I agree that we should crack down on gangs, gun control isn't the answer.
Those countries WITH some form of gun control that is enforced (not counting those places like Mexico where it is not enforced) have enormously fewer mass shootings
