Trader Joe's here doesn't have that. Their selection is slightly limited. I live in a town (L.A. extended metro area, east) that has an authentic German deli and garden. One of only three authentic German deli's in all of the extended metro area. Their selection is limited as well but they do have Kos.
advantages of living in/near nyc... anything and everything is available, if you know where to look ... my top three brews: warsteiner kostritzer wolters
I don't drink soda, and I think soda is terrible for you. Having said that, who are they kidding that a soda tax will stop people from drinking soda, and for f*cks sake can't people be just a tiny bit responsible on their own when it comes to the sh*t they put in their bodies instead of waiting for mommy government to tell them certain things are bad for them??
a few years back, nyc banned large, xtra large drinks (sodas) at restaurants... peeps bought two/three or more 'regular' sized... not sure but i think it was abolished or just left un-enforced... crazy is what crazy does...
The political problem (beyond Big Soda lobbying money) is that you open a can of worms if you dictate diet to that extent; it would look like bullying the poor to many. The tax solves the problem by simply penalizing everyone who buys soda, though they'd be smarter to conceal it in some way, and may ultimately go this route.
Good luck. Michelle Obama tried this with the schools, and the conservatives cried up a storm and excoriated her. I'm guessing they don't want to have limit on themselves but want to put limits on others?
First they came for their Big Gulps then they come for your Köstritzer and then my Lil' Sumpin' Sumpin'... There's evil afoot, I tell ya, and it must be stomped out now.
of one thing i'm certain... they'll never stop the production of beer, almost anything else, but not beer...
Not that they haven't tried... As long as people know how to home brew - and we always will - they'll never stop the production of beer...
I hate taxes as much as the next person but is it just that people are against this particular tax or all of the so called "sin taxes" and "pigovian taxes"? If you accept the argument for sin and pigovian taxes then it is hard to argue against this one because obesity does have a huge cost and impact on society. From wiki: A sin tax is an excise or sales tax specifically levied on certain goods deemed harmful to society and individuals, for example alcohol and tobacco, candies, drugs, soft drinks, fast foods, coffee, sugar, gambling and pornography.[1] Two claimed purposes are usually used to argue for such taxes. In contrast to Pigovian taxes, which are to pay for the damage to society caused by these goods, sin taxes are used to increase the price in an effort to lower their use, or failing that, to increase and find new sources of revenue. Increasing a sin tax is often more popular than increasing other taxes. However, these taxes have often been criticized for burdening the poor, taxing the physically and mentally dependent, and being part of a nanny state. People love to make fun of California but they ranked #40 in states with the highest sin tax. Which states have the highest sin taxes?
Los Angeles County voters approved such a tax last November. A compliant and uninformed public is easy to fleece.
i'd move in with gandi if he was the only one with beer, heck i'd cuddle up with chillie if she was the only one with brew... ... though i'd choke her after gaining access to the goods...
Alcohol alone has that beat, nevermind the societal costs associated with alcohol-related crimes. The problem with being overweight is you have your addiction out front-and-center for everyone to mock. I don't know a single person that's not addicted to something: porn, facebook, twitter, smoking, drinking, gambling, etc. Judge not, lest ye be judged.
As long as these Kalifornia tax maniacs restrict their mayhem to KALIFORNIA, then I don't care if they raise taxes on soft drinks to a hundred bucks a bottle or can. . "Just a medium Coke, please -- this is ALL the money I've GOT...."
it starts in commie fornia and then spreads like their wild fires we fought wars to stop the spread of communism offshore.
Oh I’m not judging anyone, I have my far share of unhealthy habits and I am surly not mocking anyone as I know many people that have struggled with their weight, some of who I care about deeply — I just don’t think the taxpayer should subsidize unhealthy behavior and then turn around and subsidize medical treatment for the above subsidized item.
We are so fortunate to have a government willing to tell us what to drink because we're just morons and incapable of making simple choices.
Wrt to EBT you have a point. We don't let people use EBT to buy lotto tickets or alcohol. We should probably regulate the kinds of food. It doesn't matter. People will get around it anyway. The way we do welfare is broken anyway.
We fought a war to stop white supremacists also. That was a hard one to get people motivated to fight. Look up some of the stuff Charles Lindbergh was doing at the time.
