I realize there is a lot of very strong feelings about this and there are very good arguments to be made on both sides of this issue. I prefer to allow assisted suicide with conditions. As we learned from the ghoulish Dr. Kevorkian some people will go too far given lose restrictions. What do you think? Humane idea, slippery slope, affront to God's will?
Please read what I upload. Gracias. Cliff Notes: State Assisted Suicide should allow the people a democratic voice too. Vote For Cait Jenner's Assisted Suicide. Well they can call it suicide.
We have had this in Oregon in virtually the same format . . I'll quote from wiki on how we got it. "The measure was approved in the November 8, 1994, general election. 627,980 votes (51.3%) were cast in favor, 596,018 votes (48.7%) against.[2] An injunction delayed implementation of the Act until it was lifted on October 27, 1997.[3] Measure 51, referred in the wake of Washington v. Glucksberg by the state legislature in November 1997, sought to repeal the Death with Dignity Act, but was rejected by 60% of voters.[4] The act was challenged by the George W. Bush administration, but was upheld by the Supreme Court of the United States in Gonzales v. Oregon in 2006." https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Oregon_Ballot_Measure_16_(1994) I view it as a success and lend the law my wholehearted support. Glad if California joins our small club
This is a good thing as long as checks and balances are in place to ensure the process is entirely above board and legitimate. Of course the Christians will be outraged and start whining about 'god's will' etc.
The decline in individual rights vs what's good for the collective would be a salient arguement. The young generations will eventually become dissatisfied with paying off all this debt in SS payments might be another. Over time is the key. Personally I'm all for assisted suicide. Let's hope Albert is wrong and this individual right doesn't become medicine for the collective, over time.
Well, I support the right to die, so I'm happy with this turn of events. I'm also looking forward to the day when it spreads to all 50 states. But I feel like there might be some negative to all this, to encourage discussion, so I'm going with the opinion that this could become a problem when it's combined with the 'death panels' from Obamacare. Combine the right to die with the advice to seek the lowest cost option. Yup!
Well there's no such thing as death panels, even in countries that have had universal healthcare for decades.
We in the USA don't have universal healthcare, we have mandatory insurance. And the death panels are really a part of this new system.
They are not. You don't have death penalties. No only don't you currently have them but the idea that you might someday have them was thoroughly discredited. Nothing in the legislation or the resulting practice in any way resembles a death panel as Palin described it. Only you and Sarah Palin cling to the notion.
I heard that the ACA is going to transition the medical system from years of costly medicine to keep you alive, so now they're going to let you die at home because that's what a majority of Americans want. Or so they say. And it sucks to be the person who chooses the option that's "against medical advice" and then the insurance won't cover them anymore.
Well, I looked into this and it seems you are correct. There are no death panels. The advisory board who's job it was to decide cost-cutting procedures was in the House bill but not the one in the Senate that passed. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Death_panel It seems considering the cost isn't even allowed. The only other thing of note is that the death panels talk just won't die. Why talk of non-existent Obamacare death panels won’t die
Wgabrie - classy of you to reply with the correction. This btw is the first time anyone has ever corrected themselves on this forum. We should duck-and-cover now as the world is about to implode
I Support Cait Jenner for "assisted suicide" Yes I Do support Cait for assisted suicide. G.C.C. Get Outa my Face GCC = Gender Confused Community Do we really have viewer interest in Cait, 24 / 7? Moi r > g No
The 'death panel' notion is not in any bill or section of a bill. It is fabricated out of a whole cloth of fearmongering.
What we have now is a duty to live regardless of an individual's suffering or his sense of independence or dignity. There should be no duty to live for anyone else, or for 'society'.
That's a different extreme. The retirement and aging of the Baby Boom generation will either cause society to change its approach or it will break the country. - - - Updated - - - Actuarial tables.
