Sadly i agree with marauder. This country is being controlled by corporate america. The only way i believe a merge between two sovereign Nations is if There is an outside need and since there is nothing forthcoming it will not happen. To support Marauders point i suggest looking at who pays for anyone in politics to run for a position. American needs a separation of State and the private sector, as well as church.

I agree completely. However, in order to do this, you need to get the state out of the private sector, just as you are pulling the private sector out of the state. Because so many things are necessities these days, that weren't 100 years ago, do to our high standard of living and minimalist of requirements for one to be even looked at for a job, we need to establish a luxury vs necessity type system of economics, where necessities have public options, and luxury items or services can run free from government intervention altogether.

Oh, and you have got to have sound money. The state is impotent if it has to barrow from a private central fiat bank that dictates the value of wealth. There can be no great change to anything on this planet until the central bankers are removed as the true power in the shadows, if not outright hung in town square for all to see.

I have no problems with Canadians, most of the ones I have met are pretty decent folks, with the exception of the few that troll on PF, Id say I'm glad they're our neighbors. But, I don't see the point of us being unified into one country.

I believe this is an option and would be a good idea. Would just make a stronger and better country, while showing that unity is possible.

Canadian politicians and corporate sector will sell out the Canadian people. It's happened over and over again.

How come the Canadian economy and its currency are so strong --- among the two or three safest in the world at present .
How do you manage to get things so incredibly wrong every time?

...I guess you want Mexico too. While we're at it we could take all of South America...gosh, wouldn't that be great with all those banana Republic dictators who could then run for president.

I'm not sure that combining Canada with America is a good idea, yeah, all those oil sands might make a good investment, but I would feel sorry for the 80 or so Canadians we robbed to get them. Guess we could sell the rest to Disney and make a giant theme park out of it-you know have guys with brooms and dustpans walking around in Mounty uniforms. Something with a winter theme, toboggan rides, ice capades with William Shatner look-alike's. We could keep Vancouver the way it is, lot's of good looking hookers there. You gotta know the heating bill is going to be enormous. We can sell Quebec to the French, no sense in arguing with them, nothing to gain by keeping it, use the cash for the electric bill. I guess there are some opportunities there.

Why should they? The whole idea is preposterous.

I have only spent a few months in Canada.. namely Toronto and Vancouver, but I found them to be far more relaxed than the US.

Why would Canada take on 15 trillion actual dollars in debt and ten times more in unfunded liabilities (i.e. social security, Medicare, Medicaid)? I mean, I'm all for it, but what's in it for Canada? Protection? Is the USA the Philadelphia street-corner mafia now?

I hope not. I like Canada as Canada and the USA as the USA. Montreal wouldn't be the same if it was in the USA. Neither would Vancouver.

in the most likely scenario, Montreal wouldn't be included.

Quebec secedes, the Atlantic Provinces being cut off from the rest of the country ask for annexation. the Prairies see them do it and their economies improve (which wouldn't be hard-when you're on the floor, there's nowhere else to go but up) and decide to try it. then BC is in the same spot as Maritimes, so they throw in too. what Canada is left with is Ontario....until they realize all they're getting out of staying Canada is bridge traffic when they go shopping.

Alaska should become independent and sovereign. It would be like the old America...competent and affluent.

Really, no one wants this. Not Canadians or Americans. I like the diversity of having two different ways of doing things. Plus, I like the idea of a place for liberals to emigrate to every time a Republican wins the White House and they have to go into therapy.

Quebec isn't going to secede and even if it did why would the Atlantic provinces be cut off, Alaska is "cut off" does ask for annexation to Canada?

economy on the floor ! the US is in major recession and the Canadian "prairies" have only 4% unemployment, the world wide recession has slowed the prairie economy down to normal from super hot...separating from Canada would see the standard of living go up, joining the US would be a huge error financially...

both BC and Ontario are more than capable economically to go it alone...

the Maritimes' economy is on the floor. the Prairies (and Alaska) have oil. before Alaska had oil, it had mining and fishing. anywho, no of that is really relevant unless francophone separatists convince a bunch of immigrants that "just French" would make their lives easier.

none of that is relevant because separatism in Quebec is a dead issue...

    If only.......

The Pequistes are still around but they are getting old. when the PQ was in power and instituted the language laws and sign laws and the language police, the biggest beef of francophones was addressed. Today, Quebec youth can work and play in their own language and enjoy a rich francophone culture while economically benefiting from confederation.

I once voted for the Rhino Party.

their key platform plank was "Sell Canada to the Americans for 1 Trillion dollars".
(this was back in the early 70's when a trillion bucks was really serious money).

Kinda liked the idea of every Canadian being a millionaire. We could all move to Florida or New Mexico and enjoy the sun.......

That seems like a bargain. If you Canadians ever get serious about that email the White House before we're broke.
