Can you be arrested for using a counterfeit bill?

    The white person would still have to pay for whatever they tried to buy. If they don't pay with the correct money after they were notified it was counterfeit, that's stealing. Theft is something you can be arrested for.

    Floyd passed a counterfeit bill. At that point, there was not doubt that he knew he passed a counterfeit bill.

    By you logic, once a shop lifter has possession of the stolen property, it is his because "Possession is the law".

    Incorrect but nice try. Floyd was notified so to leave the establishment would be theft. He should return what he purchased or pay for it with proper money.

    At that very moment he was notified, or after the bill was out of Floyds sight?

    Where is the doubt? Floyd passed a counterfeit bill and when told about it he left. That makes him a thief.

    Passing a counterfeit bill. If he had gotten it in change somewhere, he wouldn't have been prosecuted. But he would be subjected to questioning. Hence the arrest for what appeared to be federal felony and probably was. Everything he did to anger the cops was a waste time and a waste of his life.

    Technically it is illegal to try to pass it but you won't get a federal charge unless you knew it was counterfeit. Banks keep them, give you nothing in return and turn them over to the Secret Service for investigation. As for Mr. Floyd, the store kind of screwed him by knowingly taking the bogus money and then pursuing him to try to get the stuff back.

    Im more then positive a decent lawyer could have gotten him off with less then the death penelty IF what you claim is true.

    You arnt sure he knowingly passed the bill. Thats the doubt part. I dont take clerks at their word either, id have told him to buzz off as well. Plenty of times clerks try to blame others for their mistakes.
