There down a quiet street is a restaurant called Hog's Breath.

Clint Eastwood once owned it. I understand the new owners preserved the Eastwood tradition.

If you are going to the Carmel area, you might want to see how you like this place.

Actually I ate there years ago. It's nice and unique, like many such places are in Carmel, but the food was not otherwise spectacular. For really spectacular good, you should drive out to Real Texas BBQ in Gilroy. Best Brisket ever!

That is 90 miles round trip, but Amarillo Willy is closer. Did you mean them?

When I ate there, Clint Eastwood still owned it. It is tricky to locate it so make sure to research first.

Most things in Carmel are tricky to locate. A lot of the houses and business don't have a street number, just a name and the streets themselves are a (*)(*)(*)(*)(*) to navigate.

I lived in Monterey and Pacific Grove for several years and actually had a beer sitting right beside Clint at the bar of the Hogs Breath. We didn't chat other than to acknowledge each other being there.

I think most who knew of the ownership hoped to be there when Clint was there. I never saw him there though I only went one or at most two times.

Yes, Carmel is quite the unusual small town. Post high school, I and some pals would take sleeping bags and spend the night at the beach to the sound of the pacific ocean. I ran into Tom Kinkade before he died at his gallery there. Course I had met him in San Francisco when he signed my certificates.

I had two paintings. Millers Cottage and then Cottage by the Sea

I actually think that is what it's called now.

Well I ate there in the early 90's so I'm pretty sure it was owned by Clint at the time. I think it was tricky to find; I think I found it be accident.

You have the actual paintings or prints of the original paintings? The paintings must be worth a lot as he almost never sold the originals.

Most of what we see for sale is prints that have added paint by his staff to make it look like an actual painting. He had a "factory" in Placerville turning out hundreds of these a day when he was at the height of his popularity and QVC was selling his stuff on TV.

I sold them but they were on canvass, numbered, signed by Kinkade and highlights applied by students.

But they were done in artist oils.

He painted some awesome looking scenes, that's for sure. Right after he passed some of that stuff was bringing great prices. Not sure what they are going for now though.

I sold the paintings prior to his death.

Anyway, I met him two times. First in San Francisco in 1994 in the fall and in 1995 in spring or summer.

Reading up on his autopsy, he drank and used Valium per the report and his heart was suspect.

At San Francisco, he related to the group of us this story.

Tom sold an original oil to some person that lived in New Mexico. The USPS had a contest for the creation of a new stamp. Tom was able to borrow back the painting and submit to the Postal Service. They sent it back after rejecting the painting.

They did not create the new stamp that year so the next year, Tom shipped it back again for consideration. This time his painting was first place and was used to make a stamp.

I guess the lesson was to try and try and don't give up.

In person, he seemed very much the salesman, and I mean that in a good way. I enjoyed chatting with him but his schedule must have been pretty busy since he never lingered long.
