Caught on video: A teenage girl being punched by a cop at Coral Square Mall

Why are you asking me to speculate when I just said I wouldn't? There are reasons why police would strike a suspect that appears to be under control to an onlooker but perhaps isn't as far as the officer is concerned. But without seeing the full incident or having more information I don't care to engage in speculation about what did and what didn't happen, what is and what isn't appropriate, and what should or shouldn't have been done. The only thing I care to comment on is the reality that videos which only show a snapshot of an incident are regularly used to incite outrage. Its manipulative.

 

Nice excuse, if 2 police officers can't handle a 14yr old girl that they have pinned to the without striking her in that manner they probably need a new line of work.

That's a nice report, and I believe every word. Does the police report go on to say "Once restrained in handcuffs officers delivered several additional punches"? Because I bet they left that part out.

 

No one is doing this girl any favors by glorifying her behavior by making her a martyr. The girl might be a child in mind but she's an adult in strength and stature. She was hurting people and attacking patrons...even a 5.year old. By demonizing the police who is trying to keep people safe from this girl, and devoting sympathy to this....child who would definatey be able to kick my ass....The girl and teens like her are led down a bad path. Gives her and others the power to hurt, harrass and cause harm and whine later about their own "victimisation". Liberals are so destructive to those they say they care about.

 

I was a bouncer in nightclubs for thirty years and I never had to punch a female to contain the situation.

Prior to leaving the mall, officers received another call regarding a separate incident. At that time the teens who had been barred had returned to the mall. One of the male teens was taken into custody without incident. As a result, the female teen seen in the video, began cursing, attempting to incite the other teens. Officers attempted to take her into custody, at which time she began to fight and resist arrest. Due to her stature and aggressive behavior, officers took her to the ground attempting to get her to release her fists. As seen in the video she resisted arrest, and in order to have her to comply she was struck in the side to release her clenched fists - she was then handcuffed. After she was handcuffed, and officers attempted to place her in the patrol car, she violently kicked one of the officers. She was transported to the police department, identified and transported to JAC.

This woman should probably think twice before assaulting police officers.

Quite right - she might have been out of control and swinging at the cops prior to the video's start. But, at the time of the punches, she is restrained and on the ground. No excuse for that.

 

And if it did...if it showed that she had been swinging at the police, would that be justification for the punches AFTER she was restrained on the ground?

 

Coral Springs, the Coral Springs police and Broward County are all in complete Democrat control.

 

Police brutality is not a political issue.

 

I like to think that we'll hear similar lamentations from women when the United States or global economy collapses.
