The united states has a far larger population, far more firearms, and far more dangerous individuals running loose in society than the nation of Australia could ever compete with in terms of round numbers.
Then explain how so. Precisely how does the NRA enable, facilitate, or otherwise assist in the illegal trade and trafficking of firearms?
They oppose laws which could reduce gun trafficking. They've successfully lobbied Congress to protect the gun industry against lawsuits when it is complicit in gun trafficking.
Wow, and the study claims 2 million crimes a year prevented by guns. So... WOW, 2 million times 25 means that there are 50,000,000 gun deaths/injuries per year. THAT'S TERRIBLE. Got anything to back that up? It 8 to 10 years there won't be a single person left alive in the USA!
That would require a grant so I could spend the time to compile a data base with cross referenced proof. However here is a documented classic case of defensive gun use. https://m.huffpost.com/us/entry/4323080 Google Adric White and you will get a clue about Defensive Gun Use.
The obvious question of "so what?" must be asked with regard to the above. What ultimate, meaningful difference does such make? Firearm ownership is a constitutionally recognized and protected right, and cannot be restricted on the basis of their misuse by criminals who cannot even possess them. The first amendment is not restricted whenever someone uses it as a justification for their spreading the message of hatred for others, and harassing someone to the point of committing suicide.
Such as what? Cite precisely what is being referred to by yourself. Are you referring to the protection of lawful commerce in arms act, which holds that neither firearm manufacturers, nor federally licensed dealers, can be held financially responsible for the actions of criminals when they comply with all applicable federal and state regulations? Or are you referring to an entirely different piece of legislation?
