It’s not cell replication that’s being stop, it’s viral replication that is being stop. The virus uses host cell enzymes to replicate itself to the point of blowing up its host cell, which propels the replicates into other cells and then blows them up, and on, and on, until the patient’s immune system defeats the virus by preventing the replication or the patient dies.

Viruses use the same process as cell replication. A cell replicates by using either mitosis or meiosis within the cell in much the same way a virus replicates in the host cell. The first stage of mitosis, the prophase stage, is the splitting of DNA. Viruses duplicate their RNA or DNA within the host cell in the same way. The final state, telophase, is the splitting of the cell or if referring to the virus, the creation of a new virion. There is a theory that viruses originally mutated into individual organisms (virions), from a host. If there was a way to stop replication it could easily be manipulated to "infect" much of the world population by accident or design

This is interesting, because my daughter has been battling a cold and bronchitis for a long time, yet she's very health conscience and takes large doses of vitamin C. She has energy, yet can't seem to get rid of her cold and has even taken antibiotics just in case she had a secondary bacterial infection.

Lately she read about Vitamin D, and wonders if the persistent cold is because she stopped her calcium pill - which did contain Vitamin D. We live in Florida so all she really has to do is stick her head in the sun - which reminds me, the Greeks always had what they called heliotherapia (sun therapy). Every summer they would actually keep track of the amount of hours they spent in the sun for its health benefits.

Surprise, something we agree on. Perhaps all is not lost in world, if minds can resort to reason.

When a person is devout, it doesn't mean that they exclude science and knowledge. While science in turn, will exclude everything that doesn't fall within their own scope of understanding - and that can be very limiting. Just look at how many things were excluded in the past and are accepted today.

The ancient Greeks had gods for everything, but not for science, so I decided to remedy that. Here he is. I'm calling him 'Hubris'.

(Since he's a Greek god, I made him good looking and dignified).

She needs a Prednisone regimen to go along with the broad spectrum antibiotic.

In 1918, this was "high tech".

Cars can drive themselves today. We've come a long way baby!

In 1918, scientists were testing vaccines which were all targeted at bacterial infections, and were of course ineffective because a virus isn't bacterial.

We know a lot more about viruses than we knew 100 years ago. Death rates are lower because effective vaccines are available, healthcare and hygiene is superior to conditions a century ago, and the viruses tend to be less dangerous and less likely to be fatal.

We have developed several potential coronavirus vaccines in record time thanks to technology and knowledge.

"The city of Wuhan, epicenter of the COVID-19 epidemic, could see zero new infections by the end of March, said a member of the central government expert group in Wuhan. Other cities in Hubei Province, which governs Wuhan, are estimated to realize that goal by around the middle of March.

The estimate was made by Zhang Boli, an academician of the Chinese Academy of Engineering and a member of the central government expert group in Wuhan, when he was recently asked about China’s containment measures for COVID-19, also known as coronavirus.

Data released by China’s health authority shows Wuhan recorded 126 new infections on Thursday, while all other cities in Hubei saw zero new infections.

Zhang said that outside Hubei, people can take off their masks and resume normal life by the end of April. In Hubei and particularly in Wuhan, however, people will have to wait one additional month. “Zero reported new cases is not absolute. Sporadic new cases will emerge,” he said.

He pointed out that at this stage, the situation remains severe as numbers of infections have jumped outside of China, and we now have to prevent imported cases."

It's going well for China, all with just quarantines and lockdowns, no immunizations and little science applied -- and it will go well for the USA, too. People will develop natural immunity to COVID-19

They’d be jumping off bridges and skyscrapers, or demanding everybody with a fever be shot, no questions asked.

This is possibly the latest of cases of the Corona Virus in the USA . What happens from there is another matter. It would get worse before it gets better. We've had worldwide epidemics before and have beaten them and this is no different. These things don't last and this won't last forever. upload_2020-3-7_13-45-42.png

Absolutely. It is just going to cull the old and those with diabetes and those with heart problems and those with respiratory problems like one of my grandsons who has found himself in hospital with asthma several times. Get your brain working. It has not as yet killed so many people because it is only getting started. Then when you have a heart attack and cannot get help because all the hospitals are filled and have no room for you just think karma.

Everyone is expecting he US having pretended it does not exist to be one of the worst hit. China's low death rate was due to China immediately isolating where infections were. The west is not operating in that way. We will be much harder hit.

GAF? Not likely. Try reading the post titled “A Dose of Sanity”, and the article it links to.

Perhaps your critical thinking skills could use a tweak.

    More insults.

You have at least a different story from your usual demand for genocide of Muslims this morning. No your insult and inability to answer my post was reported. You clearly know nothing about this illness and as you bring it up you have never shown me any critical thinking skills.Your usual is a demand for all Muslims to be killed or how much you will love it when they are harmed.

This virus is not one to panic about but it also is not one to ignore. Your belief that it is less dangerous than flue shows your total ignorance on the subject. Until you have some basic knowledge that will remain. I will not expect any change from you and will not waste any more time on you. Feel free to live in ignorance but as I said there will be pay back for that. I will not waste any more time with you.

Oh, it’s not an insult, it’s the light wisdom shining a light on the path of reason, which each of us needs more of, instead of panic and irrational fears.

The Democrats, and their useful idiots in the media, are desperate to defeat Trump in November and know they need to play everything as a "Trump is at fault" crisis to do it.
