Nope. It's a secular holiday. Christians borrowed it from pagans.

And there's nothing wrong with that. Christmas means different things to different people. To you it has a religious meaning. To others, it doesn't.

I've noticed no difference at all. But it seems some folks were led on by the fake war on Christmas and were emotionally invested in the issue.

People once again feel vindicated and hopeful after thwarted their democrat oppressors. Clearly the mood over the last eight years has be one of hopelessness, uncertainty and social bullying by the left! But as with all oppressions throughout history this one too brought good people together to drive those that oppress back in to the dark forest from where they spawn!

thank you for the history lesson, but it amounts to the same thing. whether you choose to see it as the cross, a representation of the "savior's" sacrifice, or as greek shorthand, it is still no sign of disrespect for those who see this as a purely religious holiday. either way, happy humbug and have a wonderful day.

Ahh you must be referring to the
I can see where that might have been enticing to the atheist, Christians, may have or may not have "Barrowed" but I would think they chose to replace Sun worshiping and wickedness and human sacrifice with there own unique holiday with a more loving, sharing and giving religious experience! No one can really say who created the holiday as Christians and Romans coexisted at that time and "Shamefully" celebrated it together, well except the "Sacrifice" part, that was always reserved for the Christian, bat all and all celebrated by both.

You can stomp your feet all you want, it remains a secular federal holiday. It has religious meaning to some, which is fine. You can celebrate it however you wish. Everyone else has the right to celebrate it they way they wish, or not celebrate it at all.

It's called freedom. Something you religious right fanatics seem to seriously hate.

Well you know, it's Xmas! That special time of year where Fanatics and Hypocrite's exchange gifts and sit around the table with family and friend and feast on the flesh of animals, "Merry Christmas, one and all" :)

Why would I need a safe space? I'm not the one that's butt hurt about Christmas being secular.

Throw all the ignorance out that you can. It will make you feel better, and your feelings are what we really all care about!

I'll say this, take the Christians out of the world, and you would find yourself in a place that would be a complete pure hell hole.

The Church is the largest single provider of healthcare and education in the world, working especially in some of the poorest countries where there is no other care available
    .
In 1948 the UN put forward the declaration of human rights. These rights were so clearly based on Christian principles that some Muslim states objected and refused to sign on that basis because it conflicted with Sharia law. Karl Marx also acknowledged, and rejected, human rights as a product of Christianity.Well-known atheist Jurgen Habermas stated that, " the individual morality of conscience, human rights and democracy, is the direct legacy of the Judaic ethic of justice and the Christian ethic of love."

Francisco de Vitoria, a disciple of Thomas Aquinas and a Catholic thinker who studied the issue regarding the human rights of colonized natives, is recognized by the United Nations as a father of international law, and now also by historians of economics and democracy as a leading light for the West's democracy and rapid economic development.
Joseph Schumpeter, an economist of the twentieth century, referring to the Scholastics, wrote, "it is they who come nearer than does any other group to having been the ‘founders’ of scientific economics."Other economists and historians, such as Raymond de Roover, Marjorie Grice-Hutchinson, and Alejandro Chafuen, have also made similar statements. Historian Paul Legutko of Stanford University said the Catholic Church is "at the center of the development of the values, ideas, science, laws, and institutions which constitute what we call Western civilization.

Clara Barton - founder and first president of the American Red Cross
She was a pioneer American teacher, patent clerk, nurse, and humanitarian. At a time when relatively few women worked outside the home, Barton built a career helping others. One of her greatest accomplishments was founding the American Red Cross. This organization helps victims of war and disasters. She hoped to be a pioneer for women in service to her country. She was probably the first woman to hold a government job.

    Churches were the first orphanages
In the High Middle Ages, abandoning unwanted children finally eclipsed infanticide. Unwanted children were left at the door of church or abbey, and the clergy was assumed to take care of their upbringing. This practice also saw the birth of the first orphanages.

Habitat for Humanity, one of the largest charities in the US which internationally provides housing for the poor.

Salvation Army,- disaster relief, homeless missions, charity shops, caring for poor and downtrodden in many different countries. In 1994, the Chronicle of Philanthropy, an industry publication, released the results of the largest study of charitable and non-profit organization popularity and credibility. The study showed that The Salvation Army was ranked as the 4th "most popular charity/non-profit in America" of over 100 charities researched with 47% of Americans over the age of 12 choosing Love and Like A Lot for The Salvation Army. Charity Watch rates the Salvation Army an "A-" to an "A".Founder William Booth

I mean, the list is long for all the contributions the world has felt because of Christianity. Who does the world turn to, when they get in trouble? How many hospitals are funded or founded by Chrstians? Universities? Social Sevices?

Your atheist and muslims are not doing this!!

If we have a purely secular government with complete separation between church and state, why did government ever recognize the day of Christ's birth as a federal holiday?

I think this is a dangerous precedent.

Talk about "victim nonsense." You could always say Merry Christmas. There was never any kind of ban on the expression.

It does make for a good rally cry, though, for all the fake casualties from the nonexistent War on Christmas.

I don't keep data on that. But I don't remember hearing "Merry Christmas" more than two or three times in the past ten years. I've heard it about ten times this month. That's a significant increase, and I can't explain why it has occurred.

I think it's pathetic that these Christians have their Christmas spirits completely dictated by who the president is.

It's been the same for me for decades.

It seemed to me the "emotionally invested" people were the ones protesting nativity scenes, crosses, etc. They took cities to court. They built counter displays (satanic crosses, etc).
In the meantime, most people just wanted to give their fellow citizens good wishes and joy by saying "Merry Christmas" without being beat up at the mall.
