What Venezuela is doing is called "State Capitalism". Socialism is when the workers OWN the means of production. Not private employers, not government officials. Walmart is an example of "private" capitalism, Venezuela's government owning its energy production is "state" capitalism. The situation of workers is no different, they are not benefiting from the state owned or private owned situation.

So no, this is not socialism. Not at all.

Because Norway isn't socialist son. They don't implement price controls, and the government hasn't siezed countless companies. Go on idealizing a country you've never seen though.

It's a screwed up system no doubt, but Venezuela is far from being one of the richest countries in the world. GDP about $500 billion. And it does not contain the world's largest oil reserve.

Because majority black large cities that have been under Democratic Party control for decades are generally cesspools. Is this what you're asking?

Better State Capitalism should finance better products at lower cost.

    Socialism comes in many forms.

You're describing Syndicalism, where the workers own the companies collectively. It's a kind of Socialism and technically nothing stops anyone from trying to create one right now. But they don't work well at all, so no one does.

Venezuela is socialist in many ways. Many industries are owned by the government itself. Others are technically private but constantly subject to disruptions, takeovers and restrictions imposed at will by the government. This is state socialism, though since the private sector does technically exist it's not complete state socialism.

State capitalism is where a country is run like a corporation, like China, Singapore, or, in previous decades, Taiwan, South Korea, and even Nazi Germany.

Or the USA hahaha. Call it what you like, when people do not have the power to control their own lives through democracy, that isn't socialism, or much less, Marxism.

Socialism does not have to be democratic. In fact, no fully or near-fully socialist country has ever been democratic, as the changes to society required are not ones people are willing to do without being forced to at gunpoint.

Not true at all, Scandinavia and western Europe and Canada and Japan have done this for long, long time and their countries are the strongest in the world when it comes to quality of life, education, environment, etc.

They're social democracies. Democratic socialism would be a democratic USSR, or modern Venezuela if it had a proper democracy.

Bernie Sanders, for example, is a social democrat. Like most Americans, he doesn't know what socialism means, and thus thinks he is one. He isn't.

Most large cities are black which equals Democrat and therefore cesspools. Didn't know that.

Syndicalism don't work well at all? We have a lot of farmers co-ops in this part of the country and they seem to do OK

Most leftists, who tend to live in Team Blue echo chambers, don't realize this.

Here's an interesting opinion piece from the Baltimore Sun explaining how Democratic control has resulted in these cesspools:

    http://www.baltimoresun.com/news/opinion/oped/bs-ed-bad-democrats-20150702-story.html

Interestingly, these cities usually have the most stringent gun control laws, but have far more gun violence than cities where Democrats haven't been in power for decades.

    I wonder why?

    Correlation does not imply causation

What cities are the Republican gardens of eden? Most major U.S. cities have Democratic mayors.

True. But policies such as empowering public teacher unions at the expense of poor families, political favors and kickbacks to other public unions, horrible fiscal management, over taxing businesses, unbelievable corruption which has led to prison for numerous Democratic public officials and implementing short-sighted social policies targeting police and business owners as the bad guys that allow Democrats to be reelected but do little to solve long-term problems.

    Among other things.

Such as? Are there any big cities led by repubs/conservatives?:

    http://www.bloomberg.com/news/artic...can-big-city-mayors-are-an-endangered-species

    So yeah, cesspools.

    What's your reasoning?

Sure, the rich and well off don't need anything. The poor want some food and shelter. Yes, both potus choices are bad...flip a coin.

    Of course I detest Democrats.

    Why?

Policies such as empowering public teacher unions at the expense of poor families, political favors and kickbacks to other public unions, horrible fiscal management, over taxing businesses, unbelievable corruption which has led to prison for numerous Democratic public officials and implementing short-sighted social policies targeting police and business owners as the bad guys that allow Democrats to be reelected but do little to solve long-term problems.

The party of JFK is now best typified by the rich harridan Hillary, who is sneaky, dishonest and corrupt.

But don't fret; I detest most Republicans too, and am aghast at the idea of a President Trump.

I'm waiting for the eventual third party that will stress fiscally responsible government that doesn't interfere in a person's private business...

Lol it has succeeded tremendously. In every sense. All other places are comparative dirt holes. You're wrong and you know it.
