Please ... oh pretty please.Don't let time be on the side of proposed progress. " Time is the father of truth; and experience is the mother of all things. " Sears { around for 125 years } is about set to finally close ALL it's doors. The Biggest Retailer in America once upon a time is about to fold.It didn't have to be inevitable but time is not immortal. It comes and grows like weeds and shifts with the moving of immortal mother earth.Of course some scientists have suggested that the Sun is also on it's last legs. But Sears { My Father's favorite store } as we went to on many a weekend in the late 50's and throughout the 60's.I bought my first electric guitar and amp at Sears. I saw the writing on the wall when K-Mart caved a few years ago. Then when Craftmans tools was sold { transferred } I was convinced that the Sears of old was no longer the Sears I grew-up with. I went to my local sears every month to pay off my Sears Credit card.Pay in full within 30 days and No Interest.I used that Sears Visa then Sears MasterCard to purchase over $ 15,ooo worth of Stereo equipment over a 2 year span.Plus my Liquor store tab. I asked around a year and half ago when I purchased a New Sears Lawn Tractor.Got a great deal on.The salesman was a cocky young whippersnapper but I liked him.He was full of good cheer and had a positive attitude.I said I thought Sears was going the way of K-Mart. The young whipperdnapper with the first name of Zachary insisted that it was not so.Won't happen. He was assured by management. That was the early summer of 2017.A year later in August last Sears had their final day on Aug.12th 2018.I went a couple times a week before as the place was emptying out it's inventory. There is still a sears in the Big city about an hour away.I used my Reward points for a new Heater { free }.I also used my reward points for a couple thou off my new bathroom and also a free Shop Vac.I really nice beefy one { 16 ga. and 6.5 h.p. } I wish upon a star that Donald Trump { a businessman and Our President } would step-in and save Sears. It would greatly improve his standing with average americans. The kind of Americans who understand value and places like Sears. That appreciate the American Dream and being Middle Class. Don't Go away Sears.America needs you. Maybe now more than ever. Sears isn't just Money but Time. In this Benjamin Franklin { Great American } was wrong. { Advice to a Young Tradesman } 1748 " Remember that time is Money."
Sears destroyed itself 10 years ago. I hope it's finally dead. My last few purchase/interactions with Sears folks was negative.
The biggest Retailer, once upon a time { there's that word } is facing questionable bids in order to stave-off pesky creditors. However Sears most loyal creditor was We the People, as it's heartiest and most dependable consumer.Sears owes it to America and Americans to Keep on Truckin'. Time is not exactly on the side of right here. Bush 43 had a chance to save the U.S. Steel Industry as Bethlehem Steel was in it's final days. But he didn't. Barack Obama stepped in to save General Motors { once the Kingmaker among biggest companies in the history of companies. } But in the process Obama { the ever-dependable narcissist } had to create a job title. He became the first U.S. Car Czar. Ford passed on the idea'r and came bouncing back much quicker and stronger.GM let it's GMAC Bonds go for 20 cents on the dollar. Dealerships that have been in familes for decades were handed over willy-nilly to Guess Who. Not the Rock band but to businessmen that leaned favorably towards the Democrat Party. President Trump could use this opportunity to test his popularity and business mettle.By going public with tough talk as to what Losing Sears would mean for America and Americans. We're talking less than $ 5 Billion as a bid to keep Sears alive from total Liquidation.Sears has already closed nearly a third of it's 700 stores. With it's declared filing for bankruptcy in mid-October and stores set to close even if a healthy bid saves them from doom, the future of Sears is perilously close to extinction. Time is not on anyone's side here.No more than it was for Dinosaurs.Or Pink Elephants.Even blue mice. Please John Barleycorn see straight and chart the correct course. With the passing of Sears a chapter in America will be lost. It was an Institution, once. Upon a time.
Sears manages to stay afloat for another week. There are 3 bids keeping the country's once largest retailer alive. However 2 of the 3 bids involve a Liquidation of Sears. That is not good news.Sears already sold off it's Craftsman Tools line.Stanley Tools bought Craftsman.Or Stanley Black & Decker.
I worked for Sears for 12 years. I left when affirmative action arrived. I became self employed so that I didn't have to fight affirmative action. About the same time that I closed my own store and moved completely to the internet, Sears closed its catalog operation and put its interest exclusively on the retail stores. They got it backward. Too bad.
I don't follow. Are you saying Affirmative Action in Hiring. Affirmative Action was originally meant for acquiring higher education. Getting accepted into College. But it also meant hiring as per civil service employment. Where additional bonus pts. are awarded for being a member of a minority. But if you already worked at Sears, because they hired you, then what is yer gripe concerning Affirmative Action. Where you denied promotions or bonues'. ?
Exactly. They told us minorities would be promoted ahead of us. They replaced racism with racism. I promoted myself.
Sears suffers from a money problem. However it is not as Lucky Luciano said : " There's no such thing as Good Money or Bad Money. There's Just Money." That does not apply to Sears. There is and will always be Just One Sears. But as those most familiar with Sears age and leave Earth, there comes a time to forget. Not unlike a classic Sci-fi flick. As - The Day the Earth Stood Still - { 1954 | If Sears falls by the wayside, then Again Earth may have no choice but to stand still. Sears stood for Quality, consistency and happy customers. I've yet to hear what Earth stands fir. Earth and more Earth, everlasting Earth. " that the Earth belongs in usufruct to the living. " No ... That would be Sears
Next Shoe { Store } to drop.None other than J.C.Penny. This is getting to be a pattern.Just as Shopping Malls or Strip Malls became a pattern after WWII in the late 50's and TV sets went color as Popular Show like - I Love Lucy - and - Leave it to Beaver - stayed B & W until the 60's had no choice but to Go Color.Like it or not. However I maintain that Paul Newman's Best Movie was - Hud - { 1963 } and In stunning B & W.Where Best Cinematography was awarded James Wong Howe. However that's another discussion for another day in the life of The Boomerang Effect. No getting around it.How fads and changing times effect most everbody. Even going Retro can be a sign. So what is causing this Boomerang Effect to melt away at Great Department Stores like K-Mart,then Sears, now J.C.Penny. The Internet, plain and simple.Where Shopping couldn't be easier. Just reguires an Internet connection and Voila. From the Home or Office it's a snap.Sitting in a Coffee shop or Diner with a Tablet or Laptop. No need to travel to a shopping mall or fight traffic to get to Macy's.Plus no sales tax or pressure from any department store clerk. It's a snap. Also many items are shipped Free.meaning big savings on having to use a vehicle in order to shop. Is easier Better ?.Kinda.Maybe.I dunno. Is Fast Food better than a Michelin Rated 3-4 Star Restaurant. Maybe. It's Faster.Much less expensive.Makes the tummy feel just as Happy as a Clam.Maybe not.I dunno. Maybe if they just changed the names of these Department store dinosaus to somethin' like J.C.Searsbuck or K-Penny. Maybe they could merely change the word Internet to Mobnet. But then ther'd be a problem ... Mission Control. Who would the " they " be that decides this sort of stuff. The same " they " who Control Hollywood and Silicon Valley and Washington D.C. Godfrey Daniel I hope s'not.
may i ask, is there amazon delivery in kentucky? generally packages are not stolen or improvised bad devices, and shopping is easier done online. i have been psychologically operated on to fear crowds, so this is a very convenient substitute to sears. remember the old watering hole of capitalism was herding them in real time and not fake time.
My wife and I do all our shopping on line now save groceries, small hardware items and office supplies. I used own a retail store which I closed before things got really bad. I've been an e-merchant since 1997. It was all easily predictable.
Predictability only goes so far.Like old age for example. Many a Senior have nice life's as they age. It's all in the conditioning.Preparing and planning ahead. There was a time not too yore ago when Marathoners were only Males.Weight Lifters and Body Builders, only Men. Tarzan and Superman were Males. So not much in life is set in stone. The Internet is merely another Invention like the TV and the Radio before that.I can easily make the case that Candle sales are not hurting one bit.So much for Edison and the Invention of the Light bulb.BTW ... when was the last time someone mentioned Thomas Edison. Sears somewhat became jaded and fuddy-duddy. Sears will need to adapt and think of different ways to attract customers.Newer product line and maybe stuff like Old Fashioned Barber Shops and workout centers. They still have a lock on Automative and Garden. But they started losing that edge.
Sears had worth. That's the bottom line.Even their clothes were a far step up from what Wal*Mart offered.Plus their clothes line was usually discounted. Good Tools and garage stuff, and plenty of appliances. There is No Everyitem type retailer.Wal*Mart comes closest. I would never expect or like it if Sears got into Groceries.
Well, if you're talking 30 years ago, but Sears has been subpar for at least the last ten years. Sears no longer has worth. They started turning on their customers about ten to fifteen years ago, and made it so many of us won't step foot in one again. Heck, I didn't even go to the local store going out of business sale. Sears was the Amazon of the late 19th and most of the 20th century. Good riddance now.
Sorry but I have a hard time taking advice form those who offer No specifics.Just basic generalities. It's been my experience that the best complainers have the most specific complaints. And examples to back up their Likes or Dislikes.
What specifics are needed? Sears is going to die, and soon. I've had/known people with a variety of experiences with Sears. For example, about 15 years ago, my parents got a mower repaired (under the extended warranty they bought) at Sears. Took over two months (in the summer) to fix. About 10 years ago, a co-worker, who had bought a HVAC system from Sears had his AC go out in the middle of summer. Took 3 months in the summer heat to fix. When they did fix it, they replaced his variable speed heat pump (which is more expensive and more efficient) with a single speed heat pump. That eventually got resolved (again took months), but then when he changed from AC to heat, it broke down again. Sears lost their way by losing customer service. Sorry to say that, as my family had been loyal Sears customers for decades, but basically speaking, Sears stopped caring about customer service, and they are dying because of it. I'm happy to see them go because bad companies should go out of business. Sears was the Amazon of the past, but it's being replaced. It's part of the natural order.
Sears decided only to market to suburbanites. Since almost everybody else does that better they put themselves between a rock and a hard place. The Tractor Supply and Menards type retailers (more broadly) saw the opening and took it.
Sears was never a hard core Tractor supply merchant.Nor are them Tractor supply chains in selling anything clothing except Carhardtt. I've bought some nice clothing at Sears that was discounted nicely. NO ...sears is no Macy's.I bought my first electric guitar and amp at sears in the mid -60's.A Sears Silvertone. The only Sears I knew growing up was in The Biggest Strip Mall in Cleveland. In Maple Heights. It was notorious for Car thefts.
