Or really horrible. How do you think that they have virtually a 100% recovery rate? Even if their numbers are correct, their death rate isn't that much better than the US (1.8% vs 2.7%)

We might compare ourselves to China who really hasn't been affected at all. Maybe that's what happens when you get shot if you step outside. 160 million tests and only 258 active cases. WOW, what a success!

The point is that the systems are different all over the world. The cultures are different. The rules used to track causes of death is different. Until you can normalize the data, you can't get true statistics.

Most people have a fatalistic view at this point---it is not whether they will get it, but when, so what difference does it really make. There is nothing being proposed by either side that hasn't been tried and that hasn't already allowed the virus to spread to where it is today.

We managed to avoid the July spike that hit the rest of the country and so far are keeping the more recent spike relatively under control.

New York had over 300 more cases today than my state. Relatively under control is a bit subjective.

It can be looked at several different ways actually.
If you get the virus, what are your chances of becoming dead from said virus?
If you are alive, what are your chances of becoming dead from said virus?

Two very different numbers. I used the metric of your chances of becoming dead if you catch the virus because it removes a lot of variables such as population density. It also gives a better look at the health system that is taking care of you.
Using your metric, if the population is 100, 10 people get sick, and 9 people die, you would have a death rate of 9/1000 = 9%
Using my metric, the death rate would be 90% since the doctors can't seem to do a good job.

Since you can derive your chances of catching the virus from simply taking the total infected over the population, you don't need to include that in your calculation of death rate.
I think you are talking about mortality rate while I'm using a Death to case ratio.
