So you think you can fight with your body against someone with a gun? Good luck with that.

You have killed someone with a weapon more than once?

I have no problem with concealed guns being illegal as long as open carry is legal and society itself stops feeling funny about it.

Where I live both concealed and open carry are legal without any sort of license. Only reason I conceal carry is because even in a place like this folks still tend to look at you funny if you are walking around the store with an open carried firearm. Quite a few folks do it around here, it's not uncommon to see someone walking around with a 6 shooter on their hip it's just not something I do unless I'm out in the wilderness or at the range.

I prefer to carry open/concealed, that is to say with a standard OWB holster while wearing a jacket or slightly buttoned shirt, it's mush easier the draw and shoot dressed like that versus a IWB holster under a buttoned or over sized T-Shirt

The problem I have with banning concealed is it removes a choice as how to carry, and I would like to see Florida legalize open carry, even if it meant having to pull a carry license in the same manner as our CCL licenses are issued.

By legalizing open carry that would eliminate the problem when a concealed firearm becomes unconcealed, a couple of years back I was standing in line buying a can of soda, the guy in front of me was checking out and the back of his T-Shirt was pulled up and actually stuck behind the gun he was carrying, I commented nice gun you have there, he turned around and then realized the back his shirt wasn't pulled all the way down, he quickly pulled the shirt back down and thanked me for the reminder.

Turned out he rode his motorcycle to the store and while on Highway 80 running 70 MPH he could feel the wind lifting his shirt but that's normal when riding a bike at that speed, what he didn't think of was his gun was now being carried openly, I'm quite sure if HCSO or a CPD officer saw that, he would have been stopped and lectured to not do that again.

    What state are you in?

I prefer open carry as well, My IWB holster is extremely comfortable and I often forget it's even there but it still requires the extra step of lifting my jacket to reach the firearm if necessary. I carry at the 5 o clock position, I could never get comfortable with appendix carry nor the small of the back. I'd much prefer to just carry at the 3 o clock OWB with a quick release holster that I can detach and clip into my truck while driving.

I've always found it funny that many states allow legal open carry but require a license to conceal carry. Colorado was like that when I lived there years ago. I could walk into the sporting goods store with an AK-47 slung on my shoulder to buy ammo to head up to the mountains but I needed a license to put my 9mm in my jacket pocket. That makes sense to some I guess...

Fl. is kinda silly OC allowed on your way to or from, camping, fishing, hunting and hiking IIRC but I think it still requires a ccw.

I disagree, openly showing your gun is not the polite way to carry a gun in public imo, I prefer they conceal it

we want the wild west with everyone having a gun strapped to their leg or carrying an ar-15 over their shoulder?

I do not think we should have to ask for permission to conceal

I live in a state that has always allowed open carry, but only in the last decade issued CCPs. It was extremely rare to see anyone carry openly. I didn’t, in part, because rules for open carry in a vehicle were inconvenient, required storing the gun, unloaded in a locked case or compartment and you couldn’t (still the case) carry a loaded long gun in a vehicle. With two CCPs covering some 40 states, I carry nearly every day, but despite being able to carry openly, I prefer concealed, not having folks know I am armed... even my family and close friends don’t know if or when.

Stealth always gives you a one up.

That's why LEO's who work vice, intelligence, narcotics, very often carry concealed.

the reason people did not open carry, is it cause others around them stress, concealed carry keeps others from stressing

a cop may stop you if your walking down the street open carrying, but have it concealed and your probably fine

So you admit that there is a connection between demographics and individual civil liberties that people in a society can be trusted with, correct?

The people determine what type of rights everyone can have.

I don't disbelieve you, but would be very curious which part of the country you live in, and the demographics there. If you told me, I could probably give you some explanation for why the genetic pool is the way it is there.

Generally, former farming areas are full of responsible people, because farmers would not have lasted very long in their business if they could not manage things.
Former mining/logging areas have more problems.

The gambling mecca. And he wonders why people are irresponsible there. That one is fully self-explanatory.
wonder what type of people were attracted into the local genepool? (plus Nevada was a former mining economy!)

However, that being Neveda, I don't think they're going to get gun control anytime soon. It's still the wild west mentality 'let me gamble and have prostitutes' out there.

Some of these members in this forum are so clueless.

You think the only way to use a gun in self-defense is to kill someone with it?

I know for a fact that is totally untrue, something I am sure you already understand.

I walked into a mini-market on NW 19 St in Ft Lauderdale, going in I noticed a young man who appeared to be using a pay phone, on the East side of the store, coming back out he was still there, but something just didn't seem correct, he was paying too much attention to me, not a conversation with someone else, I unlocked the door of my car and as I opened the door I could see in the reflection he was now now walking toward me.

I opened the door, with the door open I turned around and positioned myself where I could drop into the car quickly but keep him in sight and let him clearly know I saw him moving toward me, he got about to the front of my car and yelled to me to hand over all of my money, I tossed what I bought into the car with my left hand and raised it as if to surrender, I moved my right hand toward my reap pocket as if going for my wallet, using my thumb I raised my shirt and put my right hand on the stock of my carry gun, at the same time he had pulled a knife and had it open.

He saw the gun, said something like s^%& your a policeman and took off to the East, since what I was doing was not exactly kosher, that being a beer to drink on my way back to the office while driving, I decide not to file a report, didn't work.

While on Powerline Road as I approaching Sunrise Blvd, I was lit up by a Lauderdale Patrolman, we got of our cars, he pointed at me and stated "hey ****** you of all people know to file a report of a robbery, get back over there now," now as for his language it needs to be noted I have ridden with this patrolman probably a dozen times, when I got back there it became clear to me what id did wrong.

Lauderdale had the kid (18) in custody, I was advised to stay in my car and they will drive a patrol car by so I can determine if he was the person who tried to rob me, without he being able to clearly see me (I have tinted windows) I advised the detective in no uncertain terms, I wanted to have the guy taken out of the car, so I can do a positive ID on him, and I want him to see, me so he knows what I look like when I show up in court.

He was taken out of the car, I confirmed he was the guy who tried to rob me.

In the end he went upstate for a few years, not because of the attempted robbery, which is a minor crime in SFL, but because he violated his parole by committing and being convicted of the attempted robbery, with a concealed weapon and that put him back into prison to serve at least 85% of his previous sentence.

And I learned a lot that day, while at the time I had hundred of hours riding patrol with FLPD officers, I didn't understand the larger picture, that incident sunk into me why reporting and following up on a crime, is so important in controlling crime.

I know. I asked Grey Matter, who apparently assumes bricklayer killed two people because he used his gun twice to defend himself.

Maybe maybe not, that claim could be based on what the OP see's when looking out the window and not based on numerical facts.

It's a leap of reality to assume someone used a gun twice and killed two people, I honestly believe based on real world experience, in most situations a crime is prevented from happening.

Most criminals are animals, and animals have a strong desire to stay alive, therefore they prey on what they perceive as the weak, however when the perceived weak indicates it is not weak, (self defense, staying alive and not injured) becomes apparent, the animal, being an animal, backs off.
